Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year, but fans of the Wild West franchise still don't know exactly when the title will be released. In the absense of an official release date announcement from Rockstar Games, fans have had to rely on retailer clues and leaks to figure when it will be available.

The latest tip about the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date comes from Amazon Mexico. The online retailer currently states that the game will go on sale on July 12, 2018, meaning that the game is still almost six months away from being released. The listing was first spotted by fans in the early hours of this morning and as of the time of writing, the release date information has yet to be changed or removed.

While retailers do generally have release date information well in advance of the gaming public, the Amazon Mexico information may not be legitimate. There are several reasons to question the information, including the fact that July 12 is a Thursday. Major video game releases in North America are usually on a Tuesday (the first Red Dead Redemption was also released on a Tuesday), making a Thursday launch highly unlikely.

Moreover, when Rockstar Games delayed Red Dead Redemption 2 into 2018, it stated that the game would be available in spring. Spring begins on March 20 and ends on June 21, meaning that July 12 is a few weeks out of that timeframe. Of course, Amazon Mexico may know about a delay to the game that has yet to be made public, but again, that seems unlikely.

On top of all of this, there's also the fact that the Amazon Mexico is at odds with other Red Dead Redemption 2 release date rumors. A retail listing discovered at the end of December stated that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on June 8. Although any unconfirmed information should be taken with a pinch of salt, that retailer (Coolshop) has previously been correct when it comes to Rockstar Games release date leaks. June 8 is also within the spring 2018 timeframe.

With all of this in mind, it seems that Red Dead Redemption 2 will not be launching in mid-July as the Amazon Mexico listing states. But the unlikelihood of this rumor isn't going to make fans any less committed to figuring out the real launch date. Fans are desperate for official confirmation, so fingers crossed Rockstar will put everyone out of their misery soon.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is targeting a spring 2018 release date on PS4 and Xbox One.
