It seems like every other week there is a new retailer listing for Red Dead Redemption 2 that has a new release date. Gamers know by now that the game is set to release in the spring of 2018, unless Rockstar delays it again, but that’s never going to be good enough.

Red Dead fans want to know exactly when the game is coming out, and this latest listing could be the first good hint towards that. According to Danish retailer Coolshop, Red Dead Redemption 2 will release on June 8th, 2018.

Of course, any retailer listing posted prior to a Rockstar confirmation should be taken with a grain of salt. Oftentimes retailers put up release dates for games so that they can start collecting pre-orders, and in the case of Red Dead Redemption 2 there is sure to be a lot of money made on pre-orders.

All that being said, the source of this latest listing also leaked the Grand Theft Auto 5 release date well before Rockstar Games made any official confirmation. Now, did they know the release date ahead of time or just successfully guess the release date? That’s anyone’s guess, but June 8th is going to raise a lot of questions regardless.

On the positive side, there are several factors that suggest the release date could be real. June 8th would still be considered spring even though it is a month more commonly associated with summer. The date is also a Friday, which, next to Tuesday, is a popular release day for high profile games. Typically, the leaked release dates that carry the least amount of weight are non-Tuesday or Friday dates.

On the flip side, this date could be a fake since Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, would be unlikely to release a major game in the summer months. Yes, it is Red Dead Redemption 2, but the spring 2018 target suggests Take-Two wants to get the game out right before its fiscal year for 2017 ends. June would be far too late to make that window and is a financial risk no matter how strong the brand may be.

A lot of the leaked release date’s validity hinges on if this retailer really has an inside track, or if it just got lucky with Grand Theft Auto 5. Assuming the game doesn’t get delayed until fall 2018, Rockstar should have more to show for the game and likely will announce a release date early next year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is targeting a spring 2018 release date on PS4 and Xbox One.
