Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption 2 to rave reviews in 2018, with it quickly becoming one of the highest-rated video game releases of all time. Red Dead Redemption 2 was initially only available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but a year later, Rockstar brought the open world epic to PC and Google Stadia. Now fans are wondering when Red Dead Redemption 2 might make its way to next-generation consoles, and while an official announcement has not been made at the time of this writing, a leaker believes that it's going to happen at some point.

Leaker AccountNgt says that a next-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming, but that's all the information they have for now. As it stands, there are no native PS5 or Xbox Series X versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 available, though playing the game on the newer hardware does result in better performance. Native versions would, of course, yield even greater results, and so that's why some fans want to see the game make the jump.

If Red Dead Redemption 2 receives a PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade as rumored, it may result in some controversy. After all, the next-gen versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 required fans to buy it even if they already owned the older versions of the game, and so it's highly likely that Rockstar will charge for any RDR2 next-gen upgrade as opposed to giving it away for free like other companies have been known to do.

Something else that might stir up some controversy if such a project is announced is the current state of Red Dead Online. Many fans have criticized Rockstar Games for neglecting Red Dead Online, with the company instead focused on releasing new content for Grand Theft Auto Online, a game that's nearly 10 years old at this point. If Rockstar spends resources porting Red Dead Redemption 2 to PS5 and Xbox Series X instead of making new content for RDO, it's liable to upset some members of the community.

Others, however, may jump at the opportunity to relive Red Dead Redemption 2 on newer hardware. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the classic western game could provide superior graphics when compared to the older versions of the game, not to mention better load times and perhaps even some new content for fans to check out, depending on how ambitious it is. Of course, it's also possible that there aren't really any plans to bring Red Dead Redemption 2 to next-gen consoles, and so it's best for fans to keep their expectations in check.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
