Red Dead Redemption 2 released October 26, 2018, officially making the game four years old. Many fans took to social media to celebrate this beloved western title, but noticeably, official channels didn't push it so much. Sure, one could argue that four is not as big of a deal as a one-year, five-year, or ten-year anniversary, but it's still odd that it passed in silence. And in that silence, some fans remain upset that Red Dead Redemption 2 has yet to receive any PS5 or Xbox Series X upgrades.

At this point, even, it seems unlikely to. Red Dead Redemption 2 is perhaps one of the most critically acclaimed games of the past few years, with fans flocking to the title in droves. Rockstar Games releases are so far and few between that they end up being seminal moments for the industry, and Red Dead 2 was truly no exception. Why Rockstar hasn't supported it thoroughly post-release, at least not to the extent fans wanted, still leaves some scratching their heads.

No Red Dead 2 PS5 or Xbox Series X Upgrade in Sight

Four years post-release and two years into a new console generation, there is no 60 FPS patch for PS5 and Xbox Series X players. Red Dead 2 is already a beautiful game sure, but there are many who want to see it make the most of any available hardware. With its popularity, it's truly surprising this hasn't happened.

What's worse, though, is that it doesn't seem likely to ever happen. Rockstar Games recently made posts saying goodbye to Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5, with this coming shortly after Rockstar more or less confirmed Red Dead Online was on autopilot. Fans had a funeral for RDO, but it seems perhaps that funeral should have included all of these titles. Rockstar Games is moving on and shifting its priorities to its next major title: Grand Theft Auto 6.

As many fans know, Grand Theft Auto 6 recently suffered a massive leak that confirmed it would feature a male and female dual protagonist set-up. Some fans even think Rockstar is obscurely teasing a forthcoming reveal for GTA 6, and while it wouldn't necessarily be surprising to see more of the game by the end of the year, it is incredibly unlikely. Either way, with Rockstar Games so focused on this next major release and living up to its colossal expectations, it has clearly pushed RDR2, RDO, and GTA 5 to the sidelines. Unfortunately, what that means is Red Dead 2 is likely to turn 5 with no current-gen upgrades and continue aging beyond that without them. A 60 FPS upgrade on consoles would be a proper way to say goodbye to RDR2, but it seems it didn't even get that.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
