Red Dead Redemption 2 is often in the headlines for its remarkable attention to detail. There are very few games that can boast the sort of nuance that Red Dead Redemption 2 can. Still, strange bugs do occur, and they seem even odder when contrasted with the overall polished nature of the title, as one player found out while fishing in the game.
Unfortunately, a lot of the bugs that occur in Red Dead Redemption 2 seem to center around fishing. While the in-game fish behave in shockingly realistic ways, like using waterfalls to migrate, their listed size after a player catches them can sometimes be wildly incongruous with their on-screen physical appearance.
Just last month, a Redditor posted an example of a similar bass within Red Dead Redemption 2 that weighed just shy of 6 pounds. Now, another player has shown off their own catch that apparently registered at only around 4 pounds. In any other situation, a 4-pound bass would be a respectable catch, but the fish in the photo is absolutely gigantic and appears to be more or less the size of Arthur. Apparently, this is a relatively common glitch in-game and appears to occur frequently at the area where the legendary Bluegill spawns in Flat Iron Lake.
Despite a few glitches related to the size of the fishes, the in-game fishing mechanics are among the best in recent titles. Not only does the player have to pick specific lures for each outing, but there are also special in-game events tied to fishing, and stat boosts connected to the activity. Of course, fishing in Red Dead Redemption 2 is relatively easy compared to other games that boast fishing as the main focus, but it counterbalances its lack of difficulty by providing players with more than enough fishing-related missions and tasks to keep busy.
Fishing in Red Dead Redemption 2 largely centers around catching 14—the final fish becomes available after catching all other 13—of the legendary fish. This questline will take players all around the map in an effort to find and catch all the legendary fish, as well as collect the necessary lures and bait for the job. Like the legendary land animals, catching all the legendary fish will reward players with serious amounts of cash as well as a few unique items. Still, with glitches like the one above, it may not necessarily be a legendary fish that constitutes a player's most memorable catch.
