One of the best things about Red Dead Redemption 2 is the attention to detail Rockstar paid to bringing the world to life. This said, a recent petition suggests that there is one crucial world-building element the developer may have forgotten to add to the already awe-inspiring world: the ability to pet cats.

A Red Dead Redemption 2 player by the name of Mark Kenway has started a petition calling for Rockstar to add a pet option for when players approach cats. The petition states that it is unfair that players are able to pet dogs, but cats are woefully neglected as some inferior creature. At the time of writing, the petition has received just over three hundred signatures.

Kenway goes on further to state in his petition that he came across Rockstar’s glaring omission while walking around Saint Denis – the game’s largest urban settlement. When Kenway approached the cat to pet it, he found that he was unable to and this resulted in him getting “triggered." The fact that players are able to pet dogs exacerbated these irritable feelings.

As far as video game petitions go, the call to add the ability to pet cats in Red Dead Redemption 2 may definitely be up there with some of the oddest ever created. Players have petitioned for some rather weird demands in the past, such as changing story endings or banning games because they were not as good as previous installments, and many times the action really does not result in much. It is also fair to say that most players might not even take note of this unfortunate omission during their playthrough.

However, who knows? With players already able to pet dogs, maybe Rockstar will understand that they have a made a mistake by excluding cat people from a full Western experience. Perhaps, after Red Dead Online is released? Only time will tell.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PS4 and Xbox One.
