Since its launch last October, fans have been asking not if, but when they'll see Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 come to PC. There have been rumors, leaks, and even support from upper management at Take-Two Interactive that the company would love to see the game ported for mouse-and-keyboard players in the long-term. A recent discovery in the developer's source code has more people further convinced a PC port of the Wild West adventure will eventually arrive.

Shared on Twitter, by user JakoMako51, the Rockstar Social Club source code contains a line of code that is simply "RDR2_PC_Accomplishment." While it's true the "PC" acronym could represent something else entirely, its location right next to "RDR2_PS4_Trophies" certainly seems to suggest that "PC" is meant to indicate the platform. Neither Take-Two Interactive nor Rockstar Games have confirmed Red Dead Redemption 2 will be coming to PC at the time of writing, however, the former's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has mentioned "the PC market is vibrant for us".

While it's true that the original Red Dead Redemption never made it beyond Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the company's next game, Grand Theft Auto V, was eventually ported to PC, after first launching in 2013. In recent history, Rockstar has placed its bets on finding success with their games on home consoles first before making a move to get them over to PC. For the time being, the current state of Red Dead Redemption 2 is on par with how the developer has treated its newest releases.

This isn't the first time a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 has been hinted at. While the publisher has voiced its praise for the potential of the PC market, a former Rockstar employee listed on their LinkedIn page that they were working on the PC version of RDR2. With the exception of last October, when Rockstar allowed employees to voice their thoughts on reports of the company's crunch culture, the team working on Red Dead has kept quiet for the most part.

It's safe to say Red Dead Redemption 2 will probably come to PC sometime in the future. Devolver Digital has jokingly stepped in and said it'd be willing to port the game over to PC a short while ago. However, with a game as big and successful as Rockstar's latest open world adventure, the almost inevitable PC version already looks to be in good hands.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
