Red Dead Redemption 2 and its Red Dead Online multiplayer component remain hugely popular to this day, even though they've been out for three years. Rockstar Games has continued to support Red Dead Online through regular new content updates, mainly adding new missions and cosmetic content, but fans are still holding out hope that more substantial updates could come eventually. Rockstar Games may or may not ramp up its Red Dead Online support eventually, but if it does, there seems to be one feature idea in particular that fans want to see.

It seems that Red Dead Redemption 2 players want to see the ability to buy houses and real estate in general added to the game. Reddit user Jamie_G_14 got the conversation started in a recent post where they made the suggestion, resulting in numerous comments agreeing and offering up ideas about how it could work. Some users pointed out how Rockstar Games has implemented similar features in past titles, so it definitely seems like something that would be feasible for a future Red Dead Online update, even if it's unlikely that it will ever make its way to the game.

Grand Theft Auto Online lets players buy property, and the feature appeared in some earlier Grand Theft Auto games as well. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City let players purchase commercial property, leading to a variety of special side missions that players could complete in exchange for monetary rewards. But if Red Dead Online added the ability to purchase houses or other properties, it seems like it would be more similar to how it works in GTA Online as opposed to Vice City.

As it stands, Rockstar Games has its hands full with other projects, so fans shouldn't necessarily expect any huge updates to come to Red Dead Online anytime soon. Right now Rockstar is working on the next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto 5, which was originally expected to launch this year only to get pushed back to March 2022.

Numerous leaks from reliable sources have also revealed that Rockstar is busy with another project as well in the form of the Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy. According to reports, the Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy will bring the PS2-era GTA games to modern platforms with some new bells and whistles, letting fans revisit Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Those same reports indicated that Rockstar's lack of major Red Dead Online support may actually be due to its focus on things like the Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy, so maybe when work is done on that, Rockstar can refocus its efforts on RDO. Maybe Red Dead Online fans will eventually get a truly substantial content update, but they may not want to hold their breath. For now, they can continue looking forward to the smaller updates.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
