Although it is nearing its 2-year anniversary, Red Dead Redemption 2 still continues to surprise players, with one method of this being the variety of RDR2 mysteries still present in 2020. Whether it's the third meteorite, the purpose of the match sticks, or the compass, there's still plenty to keep players going. Some, however, have managed to shut the book on a few things once or twice.

The cup runneth over with Red Dead Redemption 2 mystery solutions when the game was ported to PC, as players found answers to some of the biggest questions thus far. Unfortunately, or perhaps realistically, most of these mysteries share a common answer.

RDR2: Where is Gavin?

Perhaps one of the first mysteries to go viral was the ever-missing Gavin. Nigel spent years looking for his friends, to the point it seems he lost his own sanity. And when it came to PC and players dove into game files, it turns out the Gavin model was actually Nigel himself. This only leaves two possibilities for Red Dead Redemption 2. The first and albeit unlikeliest answer is that Gavin is Nigel, Nigel is Gavin, and there's some form of personality disorder going on here. The second and likeliest answer is that Nigel's game model name is due to his function, meaning Gavin doesn't exist in game and Nigel's sole purpose is to seek out someone who doesn't exist.

RDR2: Missing Princess Isabeau Kathrina Zinsmeister

The second biggest mystery for Red Dead Redemption 2 is Princess IKZ, whose legitimate name is Isabeau Kathrina Zinsmeister. A wanted poster reveals she disappeared 15 years prior and there's a $100 reward out for her. Players have tracked her down far and wide, even so far as believing that she's locked behind a door that no one can open (and hasn't been glitched through) due to some luggage with IKZ on it. Once again diving into the PC game files, players were able to find and spawn her character model "IKZ."

This is notable for a few reasons, as although her model exists in the game files, that doesn't mean she does in-game. She also doesn't look like someone who has been living in a locked attic for the past 15-years. Essentially, her quest turned players into Nigel, someone looking for another who doesn't actually exist. The likeliest result from this character model and lack thereof a legitimate quest is cut content; perhaps the IKZ Wanted bounty was a sidequest at some point but got cut, leaving just a few remnants of it behind like the luggage, character model, and poster.

RDR2: The Legendary Channel Catfish

Rockstar gavins players again with the Legendary Channel Catfish, which is believed to be required in-game, but that's a bit of an impossibility. Spawning the catfish on the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 renders an incomplete, disturbing, and utterly destroyed character model for the Channel Catfish. Simply put, the content was cut before it was ever finished, and like players to IKZ and Nigel to Gavin, Red Dead Redemption 2 players got catfished.

RDR2: That Bigfoot is Actually a Cave Giant

Perhaps the most recently solved Red Dead Redemption 2 mystery is that of Bigfoot, which is more akin to a Cave Giant. YouTuber Strange Man discovered audio files for the RDR cave giant that reveals its friendly nature, its escort quest, its ability to be robbed, it intentionally but most unintentionally hurting the player, and so much more. It basically seems it once lived near a town and could be treated as another NPC, albeit a bigger and more dangerous one. However, that content was cut and the giant instead relegated into a voice behind the cave.

Practically every mystery that has been solved boils down to one thing: cut RDR2 content. Now that's not to say it's the answer to all things, but it is possible that the answer to RDR2's Mount Shann Mystery, the third meteorite, or all these other things that fans are searching for is just that at the end of the day: content that once existed but no longer does. It'll be interesting to see if these mysteries have legitimate answers that players eventually find, but we wouldn't hold our breath. But still, like in situations with Gavin and the Cave Giant, the "cut content" itself can still be incredibly interesting.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
