When Red Dead Redemption 2 released in 2018 as the follow-up to the massively popular cowboy shooter, many fans were overjoyed to revisit the Old West and their favorite locations from the first game. Some of Red Dead Redemption's most popular locations like the city of Blackwater and the town of Armadillo returned in the franchise's second game. However, the ability for players to cross the border into Mexico was notably absent from the prequel to the 2010 title.

Mexico was a major location throughout the original Red Dead Redemption. The second major act of the game's story took place across the United States' southern border with John Marston tracking down his former gangmate Javier Escuella. Players were able to traverse the Mexican region of Nuevo Paraiso and visit several major settlements including popular locations like Chuparosa and Casa Madrugada. Mexico was absent from the official release of Red Dead Redemption 2, but fans of the cowboy western have taken it upon themselves to bring Mexico to the popular title.

Fans looking to cross the border should note that 'Lenny's Mod Loader & Script Hook RDR2' will be required to work properly.

Mexico played a major part in the progression of John Marston's story throughout the first game. The player first gains access to the strongest version of the game's 'Dead Eye' mechanic through the Landon Ricketts questline within Mexico. The Mexican Revolution factors heavily into the first title's story with John becoming embroiled with a Mexican revolutionary and the first game's Undead Nightmare expansion features Mexico heavily throughout its progression. The region has also been among the most popular requests of fans of the game's online version, Red Dead Online.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 modding community has no shortage of unique and talented creators constantly pushing the game to its limits. Modders have sought to bring players new ways to visually experience the Old West while others have added new mechanics and gameplay elements to the title approaching its third anniversary. Even almost three years after the game's original release, the Red Dead Redemption 2 community continues to produce stunning fan content and keep the game going strong.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
