Earlier today, Rockstar Games dropped the very first gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2. The video gave fans their very first look at combat (both shooting and melee), the dialogue system, and there was even a snippet of the Dead Eye mechanic. That's not all though, as it also confirmed a long-circulated rumor about the Marston family.

Rockstar had already confirmed that John Marston would be in the game after the protagonist of the last game was spotted in the previous Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer. However, the latest video for the cowboy epic features the entire Marston family together, in a happier time. Starting at 2:32 in the trailer, viewers can see John Marston, his wife Abigail, and their young son Jack (who is estimated to be about four years old at the time of the trailer) sitting by the campfire listening to a fellow Van der Linde gang member play the guitar.

It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment but given the events of the original Red Dead Redemption, it's also incredibly heartwarming to see the entire family together. More than that though, the scene confirms a previously reported rumor about the game and its events. 10 months ago, a leaker revealed that the game would see players "acquire" members of the gang and this would include John, Abigail, and Jack, something which has partly been confirmed by the trailer.

The leaker even suggested that Red Dead Redemption 2 would feature some sort of "end game plus" mode in which players take on the role of John Marston, instead of Arthur Morgan. As John, players would be able to build things at Beecher's Hope and that there would even be a mini-game that sees the cowboy help a mare give birth.

Rockstar has stressed that this is very much Arthur Morgan's story. But with that said, the ability to play as John Marston or interact with the Marston family at all would be a touching throwback for fans. Although the game is already massive, it would also give players an added incentive to spend time in the game world.

With the Marston family only featured briefly in the trailer, fans may have to wait a little longer (possibly until release) to understand their full inclusion in the game. Rockstar also has plenty of other features about the title to detail and show off, including the online multiplayer mode as well as the heists and robberies that fans have heard so much about. Hopefully, Rockstar will share more light on the game post-haste.
