Updated November 13, 2023, by Christopher Norman Worcester: Red Dead Redemption 2 remains incredibly popular among players. Even now, new fans are setting out on Arthur Morgan's journey for the first time. With this in mind, it is important to ensure that many of the game's most popular topics remain up-to-date. This update adds a video guide that will help players locate one of Red Dead 2's trickier Legendary Animals: the Bullgator.

As players roam around the vast, expansive old American frontier in Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2, there are various wildlife that can be found scattered across the map in their respective habitats. Not only can these animals be interacted with in ways such as petting and feeding, they can also be hunted and sold at a butcher, or cooked in the camp to create level boosting consumables in Red Dead Redemption 2. With that said, this upcoming exotic beast offers much more than just a couple of bucks and a stamina tonic.

Before advancing, it should be noted that hunting can be complicated in the game, especially for a legendary predator, since it requires constant attention to the environment by scouting for animal tracks, including remains. Even once the beast is slain, the hardest part is not over, as it's important to preserve the corpse, as legendary animals mean valuable pelts. Once in possession of a legendary pelt, they can be used to craft rare outfits for Arthur in Red Dead Redemption 2, unlike most common finds.

Where to Find the Legendary Alligator in RDR2

The Legendary Bullgator will not spawn or appear on the map until players have completed Chapter 6. For players who have progressed past that point, the Legendary Alligator can be found south of Lagras, roaming the marshy swamps of Lakay in the Bayou Nwa region of Lemoyne. One of the most dangerous locations in Red Dead Redemption 2.

How to Hunt the Legendary Alligator in RDR2

The easiest way to kill the Legendary Bullgator in Red Dead Redemption 2 is by using a combination of explosive rifle ammo, Eagle Eye, and Dead Eye. Eagle Eye allows the hunter to track animal movement over vast distances. Blue tracks will be for healthy animals, while red will be for injured animals. After a trail has been perceived in Eagle Eye, players can then further focus on that track, making following a little easier.

The Bullgator is a massive alligator that can be extremely violent because of its durability and speed, so the player should proceed with extreme caution and quietude when they are hunting it. There are a number of ways to conceal Arthur Morgan while hunting, with the most common being cover scent. This disgusting yet useful odor tool makes it possible to get close enough to use Dead Eye and score critical headshots with one of Red Dead Redemption 2's high-powered rifles.

Once covering the rare alligator with marks in Dead Eye, unleashing a couple of explosive rounds should put an end to it for good. Due to it being a legendary animal, the pelt will always be perfect, so even the most destructive weapons will not ruin the pelt. For those lacking in Dead Eye, the best items to refill the meter are the Miracle Tonic and chewing tobacco. Players can find these items by looting or buying them from the gun stores and general shops in Red Dead Redemption 2, with it being the same case for explosive ammunition too.

What to do with the Legendary Alligator pelt in RDR2

Killing the monster-like creature will give players the Legendary Alligator Skin and Legendary Alligator Tooth. These precious parts can be sold to a Trapper and used to craft the rare Alligator Tooth Talisman, the Legendary Alligator Fowlers, the Legendary Alligator Vest, and the Legendary Alligator Gambler's Hat.

Additionally, skinning an exotic animal is one of the easiest ways to obtain Dead Eye XP since it doesn’t impact Red Dead Redemption 2's varied honor level system or need any supplies other than a bow and perhaps some bullets. Depending on the size of the animal, players will gain anywhere from 1 to 10 Dead Eye XP.
