One of the defining features of the Red Dead Redemption series is Dead Eye, where players can slow down time to kill a lot of enemies in quick succession. Dead Eye is extremely useful for getting out of sticky situations and gives players a significant advantage in firefights when they're outnumbered, so it's important that Red Dead Redemption 2 players know how to use it properly.

To activate Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemption 2, players need to aim with the left trigger and then click in the right analog stick. This will put everything in slow-motion, at which point they can pass their cursor around any enemies they want to shoot. Red X's will appear where players marked the enemies, and then Arthur will shoot at the X's once players pull in the right trigger or wait long enough.

Like health and stamina, Dead Eye is governed by a meter, meaning players can't just use it constantly. Players have to be mindful of their Dead Eye core, which can be replenished by sleeping, eating certain foods, drinking alcohol, and chewing tobacco. If their Dead Eye core is full, players can refill the Dead Eye meter by killing enemies. There are also consumable items that will refill both the Dead Eye core and Dead Eye meter instantly.

The best items to refill Dead Eye are the Miracle Tonic and chewing tobacco. Players can find these items by looting or purchasing them from general stores in the various towns dotted around the massive open world. Alternatively, players can upgrade the camp and pay to have these items restocked there, so that they're never short on supplies.

By making sure their Dead Eye meter is full and ready to go, Red Dead Redemption 2 players will put themselves in a position to win many of the firefights and other encounters they get into in the game. It's especially helpful when taking out enemies that ambush Arthur or even wild animals that come out of nowhere, as players may not have time to react without Dead Eye. Because of the open world's dangers, t's a good idea to keep the Dead Eye meter full and to bring along some consumable items to make sure it stays that way.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
