After years of development and a number of delays, Red Dead Redemption 2 has finally arrived and has already left a mark on the gaming landscape. This sequel isn't just more of its predecessor either as Rockstar has introduced a lot of new elements and changes to the core gameplay including the need to care for the player's horse, managing Arthur's fatigue, and other more realistic mechanics.

Another area that was overhauled for this sequel are guns and how they work. In addition to being able to customize certain elements like the gun stock or barrel, Rockstar Games has also overhauled the animations and made reloading the various weapons more realistic for the type of gun being used. Not only that, guns that are used often or get dirty through the mud and rain also need to be cleaned in order to maintain its effectiveness.

While there's already a list of the best weapons available in Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games has hidden a number of unique and rare weapons for players to find as well. Here's a list of each weapon and how to find them.

Gunslinger Side Quest Weapons

Four unique weapons can be had by talking to the writer named Calloway at the second Saloon in Valentine. His mission, The Noblest of Men, and a Woman, will task the player with tracking down a number of legendary gunslingers in an effort to hear their stories and grab a picture with them. Unfortunately, the player will likely have to kill most of them. Keep in mind that players will need to loot these weapons off of the enemy's bodies and will not reappear if missed.

  • Midnight’s Pistol - To claim this pistol, players will need to hunt and kill Billy Midnight. This Mauser Pistol comes with gold engravings, and features above average statistics for its fire rate, reload and accuracy.
  • Flaco’s Revolver - This weapon can be found after killing Flaco Hernandez.
  • Granger’s Revolver - While this revolver may not be as good as the previously mentioned Flaco's Revolver, this is the reward for taking out Emmet Granger.
  • Calloway’s Revolver - The final unique weapon from this side mission is given once the mission is completed. Once the final gunslinger is cut down, players will need to loot it off of the body. It's worth obtaining just for the fact that it has an engraving of Canis Cane Edit, which is a neat little Easter Egg for one of Rockstar's other franchises, Bully.

GTA Online Weapons

The following weapons can only be unlocked in Red Dead Redemption 2 by first playing Grand Theft Auto Online.

  • Stone Hatchet - This melee weapon is tied to a bounty that's given by Maude Eccles inside of GTA Online. After bringing in 5 bounties, she'll hand over the coordinates to find the Stone Hatchet. However, that's not all as the player then needs to get 25 kills with it in order to unlock it inside of Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Double-Action Revolver - In order to begin this quest, players will first need to check their GTA Online email for a message from vanderlinde@eyefind.com. The message will send players to a location where a special treasure chest can be found holding the Double-Action Revolver. To unlock it fully in RDR2, players will need to score 25 headshots against other players while using the weapon.

Open World Weapons

The rest of the unique weapons can be found within the open world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Here are the locations for each one.

  • Rare Rolling Back Rifle - Essentially an old west sniper rifle, players can come across this weapon at the end of the Magicians for Sport story mission. It will be located on one of the bodies of the men that kidnapped an ally, so players will need to search each corpse until it is found.
  • Rare Shotgun - Interested players will need to first track down a hermit who lives in a cave to the far west of the map. It can be found north-west of Big Valley.
  • Rare Double Barrel Shotgun - Found in Manito Glade, players will need to kill a man who lives in a house in the woods to get this weapon. While it doesn't have a specific landmark on the map, the easiest way to find it is to set a waypoint below the letter “a” in Manito Glade.
  • Ancient Tomahawk - Check the northeast portion of Calumet Ravine to find a broken target on the ground with this weapon sticking out. No killing needed.
  • Hunter Hatchet - This long beared ax is found sticking out of a tree stump to the right of a house north of the tracks in the Grizzles and south of Window Rock. In fact, players should place a waypoint right below the "k" in Window Rock on the map to find the house a little easier.
  • Viking Hatchet - This unique weapon acts as both a melee and throwing weapon. As part of the Viking gear set, the hatchet can be found in a location called Old Tomb slightly northwest of the town of Annesburg on the other side of the river. Inside of the tomb, players can pick up the weapon near the middle altar.
  • Broken Pirate Sword - A very strong melee weapon, even if it is broken, players will need to start their search to the small islands that can be seen from the train bridge south-west of Saint Denis. The area is infested with Alligators, so make sure to be prepared for a fight. Players will need to find a broken boat that features a skull and some bones inside, which also houses the pirate sword.
