A big part of Red Dead Redemption 2 is hunting animals and skinning their carcasses for pelts, which can then be sold for money, donated to the camp, or taken to the trapper to craft special items. Some players may be curious as to how to store their pelts so that they don't go rotten, but it's a little complicated.
The only way to "store" pelts in Red Dead Redemption 2 is by giving them to Pearson at camp or taking them to the trapper. Any pelts donated to the camp will automatically be held onto by Pearson for crafting upgrades like better satchels and the like, whereas the trapper can put together some of the more extravagant cosmetic items with the pelts taken to him.
Updated on March 5, 2023, by RItwik Mitra: Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the greatest open-world games ever made, proving once again that Rockstar is the master of its craft when it comes to creating amazing sandbox experiences. The first game in the series was a massive achievement as is, and Rockstar pulled out all the stops in an attempt to create an amazing narrative that's further enhanced with a cast of likable characters who are a joy to interact with.
One of the many actions players can perform in the vast sandbox of Red Dead Redemption 2 is hunting. It's a pretty in-depth system that includes everything from tracking footprints to preventing one's own scent from reaching the animal. Killing an animal allows the player to skin it for pelts, teeth, claws, and everything else along the same lines. When it comes to pelts, here's everything players need to know about how to store and use them in the game.
The Trapper Is The Best Person To Visit After A Successful Hunt
Whenever players kill a legendary animal in Red Dead Redemption 2, they should make a trip to the trapper to give him the pelt. It's been reported that if players lose that pelt on the way for some reason, it will still be in the trapper's inventory and can be used for crafting, though they will miss out on the money that the trapper would have given them for it. Note that we were unable to test this theory, so players should still try their best to make it to the trapper.
The trapper moves around the open world but has a permanent residence in Saint Denis. Here is a map of all his locations:
Are There Any Other Ways To Store Pelts?
If players want to hold on to their animal pelts for some reason, they can technically "store" them on the back of their horse. After skinning an animal, simply take the skin to the rear of the horse and hold in the button to throw it on the horse's back. However, as previously mentioned, this method of storage is only temporary, as the pelt will degrade over time, and players will also run the risk of it falling off their horse and losing it forever.
So whenever players decide to go hunting in Red Dead Redemption 2, they should be sure to make a trip to either Pearson at camp or one of the trapper's locations afterward.
Which Pelts Are The Most Valuable?
For the most part, players can take some really valuable pelts as long as they use the appropriate ammunition and don't damage the pelt too much. This is easier said than done, but players who are diligent enough will be able to procure some really good pelts after getting a grasp of how hunting works in the game.
Of course, when one has to choose the best kind of pelts around, that mainly comes from Legendary Animals. There are several such hunts available in the game, and everything players need to know about the type of animal and their location is listed below.
