As Arthur Morgan explores the Wild West in Red Dead Redemption 2, he will come across lockboxes and safes that he can't get open. Unlike many other video games where players would have to find a code to unlock the safe or use lockpicks, Red Dead Redemption 2 players have a much more convenient method to opening them: explosives.

The best way to unlock safes and open lockboxes in Red Dead Redemption 2 is by blowing them up with dynamite. Dynamite can be purchased at gun stores in the various towns dotted around the map, and it can also be obtained at camp, assuming it's been upgraded enough. Players just need to make sure that they are a safe distance away from the explosion so that they don't end up blowing Arthur into pieces in their attempt to pry open any locked objects.

Lockboxes, meanwhile, can be opened without dynamite, though dynamite is still the best method. Besides dynamite, players can use sharp weapons like throwing knives or tomahawks to open lockboxes if they throw them just right.

After blowing open a safe or lockbox, the next step is to collect what's inside, of course. As can be expected, safes and lockboxes tend to hide some of the most valuable treasures in Red Dead Redemption 2, like large sums of cash, treasure maps, and items that can be sold to fences or donated to the Van Der Linde Gang camp.

Since players are likely to accidentally stumble upon many safes and lockboxes during their Red Dead Redemption 2 adventures, it's best to head out with as much dynamite as possible just in case. Again, players will need to upgrade and restock their camp regularly to make sure they have dynamite, or they will need to make a trip to the gun store first.

Once players are properly equipped, they should be able to open any safes or lockboxes they come across in Red Dead Redemption 2's massive open world.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
