In Red Dead Redemption 2, NPCs will react to your appearance. If protagonist Arthur Morgan has long and unkempt hair or if he's covered in mud because of an energetic fistfight in the dirt, people will take notice. Even if Arthur is decked out in a fancy outfit, if he's covered from head to toe in grime and muck then expect people to comment on it.

Arthur doesn't have to stay dirty, though, as Red Dead Redemption 2 allows players to tidy up his appearance. The game features both bathing and shaving mechanics so read on to find out how to access them.

How to Shave and Change Hairstyles in Red Dead Redemption 2

There are two ways that players can change Arthur's hair in Red Dead Redemption 2. The cheapest way is to get Arthur to do it himself. At the van der Linde gang hideout, Arthur will be able to head to his tent and trim his facial hair.

There are multiple lengths to choose from and players can choose to trim his beard, mustache, and chops separately. So, if you want your Arthur to have a wild mustache and clean-shaven cheeks, you can make that happen. Arthur's hair will grow back over time and you can also apply a hair tonic consumable to make it grow even faster.

At this shaving station, you can also apply pomade to Arthur's hair. Pomade is a hair product that can be acquired either by purchasing it from a vendor or it can be found throughout the world when looting enemies or when robbing houses. Applying it gives Arthur's hair a neat and slicked-back look.

Alternatively, players can head to the barber. There are several barbers found across the Red Dead Redemption 2 map: Blackwater, Valentine, and Saint Denis. These allow players to purchase a range of facial hairstyles, including the double fork chin beard, handlebar and pencil mustaches, and the extra clean shaven which trims Arthur's facial hair super short.

How to Bathe in Red Dead Redemption 2

Unfortunately for those trying to get rich in the game, there isn't a way that players can take a bath for free. Instead, Red Dead Redemption 2 requires you to go to a hotel and pay for a bath. It costs $0.25 to take a bath, though perhaps this price is worth it just to recreate the famous bathtub scene from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

While in the bath, Arthur can give his various body parts a good scrub. Or, he can pay a woman to help him get clean for an additional fee of $0.5. There's no funny business, though, as the woman will just keep him company and will talk idly about different things.

Once Arthur exits the bath, he and his clothes will look as good as new. Well, as clean as possible in a world without electric washing machines and tumble dryers.
