A Red Dead Redemption 2 player has taken to Reddit to show off the ultimate in-game moment of instant karma. U/Backblast posted a video of an attempted horse thief who was thrown off, beaten by Arthur Morgan, and covered in horse excrement all within just a few moments.

Red Dead Redemption 2 boasts an open world with dozens and dozens of NPCs and random interactions spread all over. This is one such event in which a man near New Hanover or Bluewater Marsh attempts to lure the player in with false stories and steal their horse. And what makes the finishing move of this clip possible is the game's realistic replication of horse behavior.

Often in Red Dead Redemption 2 players will run into NPCs looking for assistance. This time around, however, Arthur Morgan slows down only to have his horse taken out from underneath him. U/Backblast's horse reacts quickly here and tosses the attempted thief off almost immediately. As payback, the player quickly runs up and subdues the attempted thief with some swift justice. But, as if the horse felt that wasn't enough, the horse decides to relieve itself on top of the crumpled thief. One of the most clear examples of instant karma in the game.

Horse thieves, attempted robbers, and attempted murderers are all over the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and so players almost always have to be on their guard. If a player has a high enough affinity with their mount, however, then horse thieves will usually be thrown off within moments of getting on. But, if not, then players can have their version of Arthur Morgan whistle to create the same effect. The realistic approach to horse behavior (having them wander if they are not tied, having them require food, and giving them the ability to create excrement) was likely not made with this scenario in mind but it makes for a great moment nonetheless.

The realism of Red Dead Redemption 2 is on full display here. Rockstar boasted about their approach to the world of the game in the lead up to its release and it is on full display here. The random horse thieves, the fact that horses need to excrement, and the bond that riders and their horses can develop all replicate life as it was in the late 19th century. This is what makes the game a modern classic.

But there are moments when that realism can take a player out of the game. Making sure your character is well-fed, clean, and has their cores full can be a challenge that just doesn't appeal to certain players. On top of that, ensuring your character's horse has all of its needs met as well can be seen as a chore too. It is definitely much more of an expectation than most games ask of their players. Then again all those systems led to this great clip from u/Backblast. Either way this horse thief got justice, Red Dead style and that should be celebrated.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
