Rockstar Games parent company announces that it will be in attendance at Gamescom in August, prompting rumors that it will reveal Red Dead Redemption 2 at the event.
There were numerous leaks and rumors regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 (or Red Dead 3, as it may be titled) in the months leading up to E3, and many assumed a full reveal for the game would come at the show. However, E3 came and went without any mention of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Rockstar Games, so when will the game be announced? Well, the latest rumor has Red Dead Redemption 2 being revealed at Gamescom in August.
The rumor stems from the announcement that Take-Two will be in attendance at Gamescom. Take-Two is the parent company of Rockstar Games, and promised two months back that the next game from the celebrated Grand Theft Auto developer would be revealed “soon.” Since we still haven’t seen anything from Rockstar yet, there are some that believe Take-Two is making the trip to Gamescom in Cologne, Germany to give the next Red Dead a proper unveiling.
Of course, until Take-Two makes any kind of announcement, this is just an unsubstantiated rumor. Instead of showing Red Dead Redemption 2, Take-Two could be going to Gamescom to highlight some of the other games it has in its lineup, such as Mafia III or the recently announced BioShock Collection, for example.
Even so, there are some that are holding out hope for a Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement. Rumors indicated that the game was originally intended to be shown at E3 to close off Sony’s press conference, but due to the tragic mass shooting in Florida that weekend, the decision was made to pull it. Sony denied these claims, but it’s hard to deny that its gameplay presentation for Days Gone, a game that had already been highlighted earlier in the Sony press conference, felt a little anti-climatic and out of place.
Regardless of if Red Dead Redemption 2 was meant to be revealed at E3, the fact is it wasn’t, and it’s hard to imagine when the game would be shown at Gamescom. Sony is skipping Gamescom, and Microsoft is opting out of hosting a traditional press conference in favor of its own Xbox FanFest 2016 event. Therefore, Take-Two would have to host its own Gamescom press conference, or just release a trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 to the masses during the Gamescom festivities, and both scenarios seem unlikely.
It’s still up in the air when we’ll see Red Dead Redemption 2, but chances are good it will be within the next few months. There’s just too much evidence in favor of the game existing to ignore, and while its reveal may not take place at Gamescom, it should happen before the year is out – especially if its rumored 2017 release window is true.
Red Dead Redemption 2/Red Dead 3 is rumored to be in development for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
