Get your cowboy hats ready, Xbox One owners. Although the game may now be two years old, that doesn't make it any less exciting to learn that the 2018 game of the year contender, Red Dead Redemption 2, is coming to Xbox Game Pass.

The addition of Red Dead Redemption 2 to Xbox Game Pass means that a ton of subscribers are going to get a chance to play the game for free as part of their existing subscription. As stay-at-home orders and social distancing best practices continue into May in many regions, this should help gamers find a way to kill a few hundred hours in the coming month.

The release of Rockstar's now iconic western sequel on Game Pass is scheduled for May 7. Note that the press release specifies that RDR2 is releasing for the console version of Game Pass. So far, there's no indication that it will also be included on the PC side of Game Pass.

"Coming on May 7 to Xbox Game Pass for Console: Red Dead Redemption 2.

Winner of over 175 Game of the Year Awards and recipient of over 250 perfect scores, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of honor and loyalty at the dawn of the modern age.

Now featuring additional Story Mode content and a fully-featured Photo Mode, Red Dead Redemption 2 also includes free access to the shared living world of Red Dead Online, where players take on an array of roles to carve their own unique path on the frontier as they track wanted criminals as a Bounty Hunter, create a business as a Trader, unearth exotic treasures as a Collector or run an underground distillery as a Moonshiner and much more."

Game Pass subscribers should also note that this rotation is going to bring the end of the Grand Theft Auto 5 era on Game Pass. Be sure to wrap up the story mode if you haven't already before it's time to leave one Rockstar sandbox behind for another.
