Attention to detail can define a game from its contemporaries, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game with an eye for detail. One fan has discovered just how intricate Red Dead Redemption 2 can get, down to one of the most miniature objects in-game.

A Reddit user by the name hajducek posted a screenshot taken by DetailsInGaming's Instagram post of a gun reloading using photo mode. At the precise time the previous bullets were being emptied, there were able to grab the screenshot and examine the bullets to see what the used shell casings show. On the back of the shell, one can see where the firearm's firing pin struck the back of the bullet, leaving a dent. This detail might escape the eye of most gamers and is attention to detail by the developers of Red Dead Redemption 2.

To explain how a firearm works on a primitive level, when the trigger of a gun is pulled, it pushes the hammer forward. The hammer strikes the firing pin that then contacts the back of the bullet, in an area known as the primer. The primer sets off the explosion of gun powder. It sends the shot forward (while it's typical to refer to the entire piece of ammunition as a bullet, the bullet is the small projectile ejected from the shell). The accuracy of the real-life displayed in the screenshot is worth noting.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a beautiful display of previous times, along with a sandbox of seemingly endless decisions and actions. While the developers had a keen focus on the macro, it seems the micro details did not escape Red Dead Redemption 2, either. Commenters to the post revealed how the game was impressive at the level of attention put into something that most might ignore.

With a release in 2018, the fact that players are still finding little pieces such as the dent in the primer area of a shell is a testament to a much-beloved game. Red Dead Redemption 2 earned a 97 from critics on Metacritic, as well as a player average of 8.5. While not game of the year in 2018, that honor went to God of War, it earned four awards at The Game Awards, which put it ahead of any other game at the ceremony.

Large games can sometimes skimp on details, but it seems Red Dead Redemption 2 went the opposite direction. While this detail may seem minor, Red Dead Redemption 2 made sure to be authentic. It's a testament to the fact that the game made sure that developers didn't break immersion for the player, and fans have appreciated this for years.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
