Red Dead Redemption 2 made many lists of best games of 2018, for numerous reasons. Despite that, there are plenty of people out there that wanted to give the game and the gameplay an entirely different look and feel. Mods are something that the PC gaming world has long enjoyed creating for any game that lends well to modding. The most popular and well-known set of mods are usually attached to Skyrim, mostly because the game has been around so long and mods in that game have largely been encouraged by Bethesda.

While Skyrim might carry the most well-known mod community, it's far from the only game out there with creators working diligently to give totally originally appearances and gameplay to their favorite games. Red Dead Redemption 2 is among those titles that are up and coming in the mod community. There are a ton of different types of mods out there for the game, despite it only being around for three years. Some allow players to take on the role of someone other than Arthur Morgan, others allow people to step outside the bounds of humanity entirely. Some mods stand out from the crowd as being the best of the best for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Play As An Animal In Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Online allows players to use a transformation to turn them into animals, but Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't offer any such "magic." Thanks to community mods, players can indeed take on the form of any animal they would like. Technically, the mod allows players to take on the role of any character in the game that was meant to be an NPC. However, the mod doesn't rule out animal characters as entities players can embody. The really good news here is that once a player has taken on the role of a bear and pretty much done everything that's possible in the game with that creature, it's quite easy to switch to another NPC, or animal, and keep going.

If someone has ever wanted to rob a bank or have a drunken brawl outside of the saloon as a hawk, then this is the mod for them. Obviously, this is not a mod that is going to be used by someone who wants to play the game out in a very serious way. It's more likely this is something that's going to be picked up by someone who has already played through the story. Red Dead Redemption 2 is not a short game. It also takes a rather grim turn the further a player progresses. If someone decides they want something a little lighter, the "Model Swap Save" mod can do the job.

Move About Red Dead Redemption 2 In A Hot Air Balloon

The Red Dead Redemption 2 map is quite big. Even riding around on a horse, it can take quite a while to get from point A to point B. Some of that is likely intentional; this is, after all, an open-world game and there are parts of the maps and stories that unfold there that are supposed to be discovered as players explore. However, if a user would rather get around the map a bit quicker, there is a mod that allows that to happen while floating high in the air.

The "Hot Air Balloon" mod does exactly what its name suggests. This puts a Hot Air Balloon into the game so that players can fly from one end of the Red Dead Redemption 2 map to the other. Once Arthur hops into that balloon, it can take him anywhere he wants to go. This mod can come in handy for those who also want to take in everything from high above the earth. That can come in handy when plotting out where to go next, or even find places that the player missed when traveling by horseback. There is the added bonus that a player won't have to spend their in-game money on a horse, or worry about keeping it healthy and happy if they don't want.

Skip Red Dead Redemption 2's Opening Act

For those that haven't played Red Dead Redemption 2, the opening act is a must-play. It helps players understand the relationship between Dutch Van Der Linde, Arthur Morgan, and the rest of the gang that takes center stage in the game.

There is, of course, the opening action scene that teaches players how to use the game's controls in a gunfight. There's also a way to decide exactly how to play, as Arthur will be presented with his first moral decision. There is also a rather long scene where Arthur and the rest of his camp travel from one area to another. There's quite a bit of backstory included in that long trip. It's necessary to watch for a player who really wants to get immersed in the story. However, in a situation where someone is starting the game over, after playing through at least part of Red Dead Redemption 2 before, it can be quite monotonous.

That's where the "Skip The Opening Act" mod comes in handy, and it does exactly what it sounds like. It gives the player a save file where the intro has been completed so that when a user jumps into the game using the mod, they will find themselves at Arthur Morgan's camp where he can walk around and talk to people, or head off on the first missions of the main story. For those who might be coming back to the game after a long while with the desire to start over again, this particular mod comes in handy.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
