Red Dead Redemption 2 was released back in 2018 and became an instant classic. The reason is pretty simple too: there’s a lot to love about this western game from its long-form storytelling, environmental storytelling, and the overall western/samurai themes in Red Dead Redemption 2 to its excellent character, slow-form gameplay, and far, far more. That compounds on the many, many reasons fans continue to play the game too.

Every so often, it’s revealed that someone is on their fifth, sixth, seventh, or even something like the tenth playthrough, and because of this, Red Dead Redemption 2 players are constantly making new discoveries. At the same time, though, the best part of every playthrough isn’t always finding something new but truly appreciating something that has been seen in every playthrough every time.

That’s where Arthur Morgan’s roasts come in, as recently shared by Redditor AutumnUnderFire. Players have long known that the “greet-greet-antagonize” approach to talking to NPCs results in a hilarious line of dialogue, yet these roasts from Arthur Morgan never grow old. It’s such a small detail in Red Dead Redemption 2, but it makes the game stand out when someone is enjoying Morgan’s witty, sometimes child-like roasts three years after launch.

Using a viral Tiktok video where Arthur Morgan tells a woman NPC that she looks like a lady he used to know…and then following up with how he misses that horse, several fans shared their favorite roasts too. These have included, but are certainly not limited to, dialogue lines like “That’s a fine looking horse you have…how long have you been married?” “You know, your face looks familiar…reminds me of the last time I lifted my horse’s tail” “Don’t you Grays have something better to do, like marrying your sisters” and “I like you, mister. You have a kind face, the kind I’d like to punch.”

Obviously, this doesn’t entail every single greet-greet-antagonist roast Arthur Morgan can do, but as Arthur Morgan builds on the "greet" lines, they certainly deliver a blow as roasts in Red Dead Redemption 2. These jokes really bring out Arthur Morgan’s personality, and his delivery of them makes them even funnier than they were originally.

Again, the very fact that players are still joking about, enjoying, and sharing their favorite Arthur Morgan roasts in Red Dead Redemption 2 so long after launch is astounding in the best of ways. Indeed, it speaks to the fact that Red Dead became an instant classic, and that it has something for players in every playthrough, new or otherwise yet always appreciated.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
