Red Dead Online is full of surprises. The online multiplayer experience is continuing to be built upon by Rockstar and players find much to do even after countless hours of playing time. What some may not expect, however, is discovering entirely unreleased regions for Red Dead Online when exploring the dangerous terrains of the open west. That is apparently what just happened.

In the past, players of Red Dead Redemption 2 have found hidden locations such as Mexico and Guarma. In the case of this particular find, a player appears to have glitched to Mexico while playing Red Dead Online.

Reddit user u/hafooni uploaded a video to r/RedDeadOnline recently in which they found themselves in what appears to be Mexico in the wild west online game. The player completed a bounty and when they spawned back in the game, they were North of the San Luis River and in an area that players are not normally supposed to be. Red Dead veterans may remember Mexico from the original Red Dead Redemption. Seeing the bright orange sandy deserts of Mexico in the current iteration of Red Dead would be exciting.

What is still unknown is whether or not this strange area in Red Dead Online is simply a glitch or an incomplete area that may one point be filled in with missions, animal life, enemies, buildings, and so on. Players have found ways to get outside of the map in video games for decades, and this could simply be another example of that. In this particular case, u/hafooni did not do much exploring and the area looked barren. However, it could be a taste of what will eventually be around the corner with added content to the online western title.

Especially since the standalone release of Red Dead Online, the game has seen a lot of growth and Rockstar continues to support the title in interesting ways. The idea of expanding on the regions seems like something that would be very realistic. And with the fact that an area like Mexico was in the original Red Dead Redemption, the area would make a lot of sense.

While Red Dead Online is not quite Grand Theft Auto Online, it has very much come a long way. If Rockstar wants the game to reach the same heights as GTA Online, it needs to support the game aggressively. Red Dead Online has potential in ways that GTA Online does not. In some ways, region expansions of Red Dead Online gives the game the opportunity to live on endlessly; Mexico would be an excellent example of that.

Red Dead Online is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
