Red Dead Redemption 2's online multiplayer component, Red Dead Online, is now available to most players, giving fans of the game a chance to explore the Wild West with friends. Many of the activities that are available in the single player Story mode for Red Dead Redemption 2 also appear in Red Dead Online in some form, such as following treasure maps to find hidden riches in the game world.

However, similarly to selling animal pelts, finding, following, and solving treasure maps in Red Dead Online works a bit differently than it does in Story mode. In Red Dead Redemption 2's single player mode, treasure maps are gained from characters or found in the game world, and the location of the treasure is universal for everyone playing the game. The treasure maps in single player are also a little more difficult to solve, as they largely consist of sketches that are supposed to lead players to certain parts of the world. In Red Dead Online, meanwhile, the maps will lead players to a specific area, though the treasure could spawn in one of a few different spots in the highlighted zone.

Getting treasure maps in Red Dead Online is also different than in Story mode. To get treasure maps in Red Dead Online, players can use one of two proven methods. First, they can take over gang hideouts, which will sometimes result in getting a treasure map as a reward from the gang leader.

The second way to get treasure maps in Red Dead Online is by ranking up. Every five ranks, Arthur can get a treasure map by speaking with the postman at the post office. For example, when Red Dead Online players reach rank 10, they can get the Bard's Crossing treasure map as a reward, and at level 15, they will get the Blackbone Forest treasure map.

If players manage to find the hidden treasure each treasure map is hiding, they will usually get some cash and gold nuggets for their troubles. It takes a whopping 100 gold nuggets to get just one gold bar in Red Dead Online, so players will have a lot of work to do if they want to get rich in the game without buying microtransactions.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
