New updates for Red Dead Online and the Bounty Hunter role are now available for players to dive into. Rockstar Games has made Red Dead Online a standalone title for purchase, and added multiple features for elite bounty hunters.

Until now, Red Dead Online was only available for players who purchased the full game, including single player and multiplayer. For those interested in exploring the online world, they can now pick it up for the low price of $4.99. The Bounty Hunter role update includes 10 new ranks, along with multiple weapon variants, horses, legendary bounty targets, and more.

The Red Dead Online standalone is available for all platforms, including next generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox series hardware via backwards compatibility. However, players wanting to partake will need to purchase PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold to play on those consoles. Gamers intrigued by this deal will have to act fast, as the $4.99 promotion ends on February 15, 2021.

These Bounty Hunter updates should be enticing for new players, as they get 5 gold bars off the license. There is plenty for veterans too, including a Legendary Bounty for Gene “Beau” Finley and 40% off all Bounty Hunter items up to level 20. New and returning cowpokes can also enjoy leveling up Outlaw Pass No. 4, which offers unique outfits, emotes, and camp updates as just some of the rewards. In addition, Rockstar Games has added a handful of quality-of-life updates, such as being able to use the Advanced Camera on horseback and boosting rewards for missions.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was lauded by critics and players for its incredible single player experience. Red Dead Online, however, has seen a fair share of glitches, inadequate content updates, and even protests involving clown players. Making online available as an inexpensive standalone should bring in a host of interested players, a boon for continued support. Bounty Hunter is one of the few involving classic western action, so more content is an exciting prospect. This is especially true given that Bounty Hunter XP after rank 30 can be exchanged for in-game RDO$ and gold.

Some players may be unhappy with a standalone version of online, as it does not add much besides potential issues. In comparison, Rockstar Game’s other popular multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto Online, recently received a major update involving a new heist. Fans of the game may wonder why Rockstar has focused on merely adding to an established role instead of adding a new content, like Trader or Moonshiner. But the small price for Red Dead Online and new Outlaw Pass should provide players plenty to explore for now.

Red Dead Online is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
