It's been quite the up and down ride since the online portion of Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived. While the service has stabilized and eliminated a lot of the odd bugs such as the large piles of dead horses, Rockstar Games has continued to add new content nearly every month. After being teased last month, the Frontier Pursuits update has finally been detailed in full as well as given an official release date.

On Twitter, Rockstar Games has confirmed that the Frontier Pursuits update launches for Red Dead Online on September 10 and adds three new roles that players can take on. Through the Bounty Hunter, Trader, or Collector roles, players can earn Role XP by completing specific activities related to that profession. Every 5 ranks unlocks a new tier of distinction as well as rewards from cash and gold, to new skills, free roam events, and kit items.

Players who manage to reach Distinguished ranks will get special clothing options to show off their accomplishments as well. In order to start progressing into one of the three roles, players will need to not only find a special NPC, but contribute a certain amount of resources.

Bounty Hunter

Aspiring bounty hunters should head to Rhodes to find a Legendary NPC character who is selling licenses for 15 Gold Bars. Twitch Prime members can bypass this fee by linking their Twitch and Rockstar Games Social Club accounts by Sunday, September 8. Once licensed, players can pick up bounties near law officies and train stations and eventually hunting high bounty players once level 12 is reached.

Trader

Players' camp companion Cripps is the starting NPC for this role. Speak to him and pay 15 gold bars to become a his partner while also converting the player camp into a business. Part of the 15 gold bars requirement purchases a Butcher's Table, an item all PS4 players will get for free. Gathering materials from hunting animals and taking on resupply missions will help Cripps turn the materials into sellable goods which can then be sent out on low-risk local deliveries or over a longer distance for a greater reward, but more risk. At higher ranks, the players' camp may be susceptible to raids from competitors.

Collector

The last role of this update, the Collector, is started by speaking to the traveling saleswoman Madam Nazar. The startup cost is again 15 gold bars, though any player who has found all 54 hidden playing cards in GTA Online can get the Collector's Bag for free. As a collector, players can explore the world and discover valuable treasures like Tarot cards, family heirlooms, and more. Players can decide to sell the items immediately or seek out the entire collection for even more valuable rewards. At higher levels, players earn even more helpful treasure hunting skills like enhanced searching, increased carrying capacity, and even a metal detector.

While the three new roles are the biggest aspect of this update, Rockstar is also adding even more quality of life updates including more stable slots, improved selling prices for jewelry, lootable containers in ambient wagons, additional custom outfit slots, and more. All weapons have also been rebalanced to reduce the reliance on headshots as the primary way to kill players in PvP. Rockstar also hinted that improvements have also been made to player control through quicker and more responsive movements in combat and while running.
