As told by Red Dead Online, those that relish in the outlaw lifestyle frequently find themselves in financial hardship. For players that are looking to improve their situations, theft is a reasonable approach, but it may leave some wondering where to exchange the myriad of rings, belt buckles, and other valuables they have collected for cold hard cash.

Players that have put time into Red Dead Redemption 2 will remember the Fences that populated its world. In the single-player campaign, Fences were the go-to NPC for unloading stolen loot, and they make a return in Red Dead Online. Fences (demarcated as a bag with an "x" on the map) will be happy to take jewelry, belt buckles, watches, tonics, and more off the thieving hands of a new desperado, and they can be sought out in the Emerald Ranch, Rhodes, Saint Denis, Thieves Landing, and the Van Horn Trading Post.

However, there are some items that Fences will simply not accept, and players will need to seek out different NPCs to unload the pelts and carcasses they have taken from animals as well as the flowers and herbs they have picked throughout their travels. Furthermore, there are objects that no NPC will purchase, and players may be surprised to learn that alcohol and food are amongst them.

Money is not the only thing players can expect to earn from selling goods to Fences. Red Dead Online features an Awards system that is akin to the single-player campaign's Challenges, asking players to complete small objectives. The ultimate reward for finishing an Award is a wearable Gold Belt Buckle, and the Fence-based Trade Award requires that players sell 1,000 valuables to one of these NPCs.

Whether a player is looking to change their character's appearance or add a new weapon to their arsenal, money makes the world go round in Red Dead Online. While a vocal portion of the player base has been suggesting that something is amiss with the current price tags attached to the game's many goods and services, there are ways to make money and acquire desirable items. Selling valuables to Fences is certainly one of these methods.

Red Dead Online is accessible through Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
