As more outlaws enter Rockstar's newest multiplayer sandbox, it is becoming increasingly clear just how challenging it is to make any significant amount of money in Red Dead Online. Time-consuming missions often offer menial rewards, and this, coupled with the high price tag that seems to be attached to almost all of the game's items, is leaving some players frustrated. In response, diligent desperadoes are already finding ways to expedite the money-making process.

The first method utilizes Red Dead Online's "Free Roam" option, which is accessible from the "Online" menu. When a player that is already in Free Roam mode selects "Free Roam," they spawn in a location very near to where they were when they selected it, but they are now on a new server. This means that if a player loots a location of its items, they can select "Free Roam" and have quick access to the location again (on a new server with its loot respawned).

For full clarity, the process is as follows:

  1. Loot the items from a location
  2. Access the "Online" menu
  3. Select "Free Roam"
  4. Return to the location and loot the items again
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 as many times as desired
  6. Sell the loot to an NPC

For players that can avoid PvP long enough to utilize it, this method can be executed in an area where there is desirable loot. One recommended location is a cabin in West Elizabeth.

Shared by YouTuber JumpmanGerm, a cabinet can be found on the right side of the first floor. Inside are two pieces of quality loot to be farmed with the aforementioned method.

For those that are looking for another option for making money quickly, RockstarINTEL has outlined a method that centers around the fact that when a Red Dead Online character is deleted, the money that they were carrying is transferred over to any new character that is created. To state the obvious, this method does require players to create a new character and lose any progress they may have made previously.

  1. Access the "Player" menu
  2. Delete your character
  3. Create a new character
  4. Complete the first six story missions, netting around $450
  5. Repeat steps 1-4

It takes approximately two and a half hours to complete Red Dead Online's first six missions, making this a viable way to build up a foundation of money quickly. Of course, players that choose to employ this method will need to determine exactly how much money they want to amass before they are ready to continue on with their character.

Rockstar has made no official statements regarding these methods, and players that employ them are doing so at their own risk. It seems likely that both options will be addressed in future patches, but industrious outlaws can now use them to build a sizable nest egg quickly. That said, the fact that players are finding that these exceedingly tedious methods for money-farming are their best options certainly raises some red flags about Red Dead Online's current reward and cost structures.

Red Dead Online is accessible through Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
