Red Dead Online, which is Red Dead Redemption 2's multiplayer component, has begun to roll out. Players can now experience everything from grinding for gold bars to making a Posse. Concerning the latter, it is a fundamental aspect of this online western world that many may consider akin to other games' Clan system. To make a Posse, the first thing players must do is complete the online intro "Honor Among Horse Thieves" and return to camp. This is when the posse function will unlock.

Before proceeding, it's worth mentioning that those looking to make a Persistent Posse (which is permanent) are going to need to make $200. Otherwise, a Temporary Posse is free. Starting up a Red Dead Redemption 2 Posse is as simple as pressing left on the D-pad for Posse and selecting the Form a Posse option (square on a PS4, X on an Xbox One). Players will also be able to set privacy settings, adjust friendly fire, and set a campsite from this menu.

Of course, this is just the beginning, as Red Dead Online players will have a plethora of options concerning their own Posse and others' moving forward in Red Dead Redemption 2's online component. These are outlined below:

  • Invite Friends - After forming the Posse, press left on the D-Pad once again to invite friends.
  • Join Other Posses - If interested in joining other Posses, go to the pause menu, select online, and choose to Posse Up. This option puts the player into a random Posse.
  • Accept a Posse Invite - Once again, use D-Pad left which will show an invite.
  • Leaving a Posse - It's worth mentioning that players cannot do this during active missions. To leave during one, players will have to select Free Roam from the Online Menu. Otherwise, there is an Abandon Posse Option available in the D-Pad Left menu.
  • Shut Down a Posse - Using the Abandon Option above will shut down the entire Posse if it is one created by the player.

All things considered, it's a rather straightforward process in Red Dead Redemption 2 that can make this online counterpart even more social. Despite this, though, there are still some waiting to get into the beta. So, those players can check out the staggered release schedule here.
