Sometimes, no matter how skilled or experienced a player is with a game, they hit a run of bad luck. One Red Dead Redemption 2 player hit a series of incidents where their horse worked against them, not just once, but multiple times in a row.

Horses are a big part of the game in Red Dead Redemption 2, as players often come to rely on the animals for transportation, in-game bonding, and in general, helping make the game a smoother experience. After all, every cowboy needs a horse, even in video games but most of them hope their horses won't be this annoying.

Reddit user KiddJerichoXO posted a video showing them riding a horse on a mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 to take out the Revenue Agents, but the user's steed ended up making the mission a complete failure. First, the horse ran off a wooden bridge while the player was trying to cross, dropping them several feet down into a ravine and ending the mission. The rider remounted and rode the horse down a steep decline, ending in another fall.

Just when the user might have thought they were in the clear, the horse ran straight into another mounted rider and flung the user over both horses' backs, throwing the cowboy avatar for a third time. And to rub salt into a wound, another character rode head-on into the player and knocked them over just as they were trying to get back up. Some RDR2 players go to extreme lengths to protect their horses, but this horse went to no such lengths to protect its rider or even keep them on its back.

Some of the comments chastised the video poster for not patting the horse to bond after falling, to which the OP responded that they were in a time-sensitive situation. The user expressed frustration for being knocked over literally four times in a row, and many fellow players expressed condolences. A few people even agreed that annoying horses are a common experience in Red Dead Online, and that while this user did have some particularly terrible luck, it's not that unheard of to be at odds with one's horse in Red Dead.

It's true that many Red Dead Redemption 2 horses make dumb decisions, like spoiling hostage rescues or teleporting down ladders to block their rider's escape. A lot of virtual cowboys get very attached to their equine companions, but sometimes, these virtual animals just don't repay that affection.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
