One of the main activities Red Dead Redemption 2 players will participate in when playing Red Dead Online is taking over gang hideouts. However, some Red Dead Redemption 2 players may not know where to find gang hideouts in Red Dead Online, and may be confused about how they actually work in the game.

Gang hideouts are special events that can occur at different times and places in Red Dead Online's massive open world, and will be marked by a red skull on the map when they're available. After locating and traveling to the gang hideout, which can be done in a posse of other players, the event will begin proper.

Here is a list of known gang hideouts in Red Dead Online and where they can be found on the world map:

  • Bacchus Station (north of Fort Wallace)
  • Clements Point (west of Rhodes)
  • Cumberland Falls (southwest of Valentine)
  • Ewing Basin (south of Lake Isabella)
  • Fort Mercer (east of Benedict Point)
  • Hanging Dog Ranch (north of Little Creek River)
  • Jorge's Gap (southwest of Armadillo)
  • Quaker Cove (south of Blackwater)
  • Solomon's Folly (southwest of Benedict Point)
  • The Loft (west of Roanoke Valley)
  • Twin Rocks (north of Armadillo)
  • Willard's Rest (northeastern most part of the map)

All gang hideout events consist of the same thing, more or less. The main goal is to kill all of the gang members at the hideout, which will then prompt their leader to surrender. Players can choose to spare the leader or kill them. Regardless, players will be rewarded for taking over the gang hideout, and if they search around the area, they will likely come up with even more rewards as well.

Typically, there are two kinds of extra rewards that Red Dead Redemption 2 players will find after taking out a gang hideout in Red Dead Online. They may find a treasure map by looting the dead gang leader, or if they choose to spare him, it's possible he will offer a treasure map as thanks for sparing his life. Players can also find chests hidden at the gang hideout that can be looted for cash and other valuable items, not unlike robbing a homestead in the Story mode.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
