Red Dead Redemption 2's online mode, known simply as Red Dead Online, is now available to the masses. Besides online free-roaming, it includes distinct multiplayer match types that aspiring outlaws can participate in, including a battle royale-style game mode called Make It Count. However, it may not be immediately clear to players how they can play battle royale in Red Dead Redemption 2.

To play the Make It Count battle royale mode in Red Dead Online, players first need to complete the introductory mission. This introductory mission is somewhat lengthy, but it's required for any Red Dead Redemption 2 players who want to dive deeper into the game's online offerings. Once that's done, players can go to the pause menu, select Online, and then choose from different free-roaming options as well as multiplayer playlists.

At the time of writing, there are three multiplayer playlists for Red Dead Redemption 2 online players to choose from. This includes Showdown Series, Showdown Series Large, and Race Series. The Make It Count battle royale mode will only appear in the Showdown Series or Showdown Series Large playlists, so select one of them.

After jumping into one of the multiplayer match playlists in Red Dead Online, players then need to play matches until they are eventually put into a round of Make It Count. There are two variants of Make It Count - one where players are equipped with a bow and arrow, and another where they are equipped with throwing knives. Everyone can be killed in one hit, and unlike many other battle royale games, players don't spend any time looting or looking for better equipment. Basically, every participant is more or less on an even playing field.

Make It Count will take place on one of three maps, which consist of Stillwater Creek, Strawberry, and Tall Trees. In the future, it's possible that Rockstar will add more maps to the rotation, but that's it for now. Once in a game, the playable area of these maps will continually shrink, which is standard for the genre, and force players to move closer together and confront one another.

Eventually, Rockstar may add a more straightforward method to playing Red Dead Redemption 2's battle royale mode, but for now, the method outlined above is how players can play it in the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
