After the critical and continued commercial success of Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2, the game is finally gearing up for its highly anticipated beta for Red Dead Online. While a slice of the audience still has a few days to wrap up the game's massive story before everyone is able to jump into the testing period, there have been some new findings that seem to allude to Rockstar being the latest developer to contribute to the battle royale craze.

A reported leak from Twitter user illogical Mods revealed that Red Dead Online's list of game modes will be including a battle royale mode called Make It Count. If the leak is real, Make It Count sees 32 players in a free-for-all with limited weaponry, facing off at one of either three locations in Red Dead Redemption 2–that is, Strawberry, Stillwater Creek, or Tall Trees.

As is typical across all battle royale games, the playing field will gradually shrink, forcing the final few players left in each session to duke it out in closer quarters. With the beta starting today for those who purchased the Ultimate Edition of Red Dead Redemption 2, confirmation of the leak's legitimacy should be discovered soon.

The news of a 32-player battle royale mode falls in line with the expected player count Red Dead Online will support. There's no telling yet how large the battlefield for each location will be, but given the significantly lower number of players compared to other popular battle royale games, it seems plausible that Rockstar is confining the size of the playing field for each area in order to allow game sessions to be more action-packed.

While it's nice to see it's likely Red Dead Online is taking a chance with battle royale, much like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has and Battlefield V plans to do in the near future, this isn't the only leak that has fans excited for what's to come from the newest online experience from Rockstar. Another recent leak via the game's companion app last month revealed a possible return of Adversary Modes, as well as the Rockstar Editor, which were well received in Grand Theft Auto Online. So for those who aren't as excited about a Red Dead battle royale mode as others, there's still a ton to look out for in the next few days once the beta goes live for everyone.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
