The Red Dead Online community has remained loyal through slow drips of content and the release of animal transformations, with players going out of their way to see all there is to see, and noticing the small details Rockstar put into the world. The studio messed up in one area, though, as Red Dead Online players have noticed an inconsistency in Gus’s animal hats.

Gus Macmillan is one of the many eccentric characters players will encounter in Red Dead Online, providing unique outfits in exchange for players completing Red Dead Online’s legendary hunts. While his outfits look nice initially, when compared to one another a problem can quickly be found. The issue in question deals with the various sizes of the animal hats, as it is something that makes very little sense.

A player named 04whim posted a comparison photo of two hats in the Red Dead Online subreddit, titling the post “Gonna go to my grave wondering how Gus managed to make a fox’s head bigger than a bear’s head.” Sure enough, the hats’ biggest flaws become obvious immediately, as the massive wolf head compared to the tiny bear head is wildly confusing. With the bear clearly being an adult and not a cub, the grim possibility that some players may think of is out of the question.

The Red Dead Redemption universe offers no shortage of weird moments, with one Red Dead player somehow firing explosive revolver bullets. With that in mind, though, the weirdness usually comes from odd players online or in-game glitches. Seeing Rockstar make such a glaring mistake is a rarity, and it’s one the commenters seem genuinely bothered by. For instance, Redditor SpindlySquash comments “I really, really wish R* had done a better job with these outfits,” with many players replying and echoing the dissatisfaction.

Other players share examples of different animal hats not being anatomically correct, showcasing that the issue does not only pertain to the wolf and bear hats. Reddit user forever_tuesday states that “the one that really freaks me out is the size of the cougar head,” sharing that the big cat’s skull is far bigger than the ones on the rest of the animal hats. They also mention the incredibly tiny bison head, showcasing just how big of an inconsistency there is among the hats. Perhaps the hats will be removed like Red Dead Online's small lobbies so that they can be fixed, but they will likely just remain oddly proportioned.

With Red Dead Online players possibly getting a version of Undead Nightmare this Halloween, any hats added in the update will hopefully be correct.

Red Dead Online is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
