Williamson makes an appearance in the first game as well, where he is a shell of his former self. By reading a letter found in Bill's tent, players are able to learn that his first name at birth was Marion. Bill will say it was a family name, but he was embarrassed by it and changed it. The option he goes with is far from creative.

Bill takes his new first name from his last name, effectively making his name William Williamson. Not everyone will like their name and it is understandable to change it, but he could have gone with so many options.

9 Was In The Army

Bill's discharge papers from the army

Before joining the Van Der Linde Gang, Bill Williamson was part of the army. He was dishonorably discharged for attempted murder and deviancy on December 27, 1892. It is also on this piece of paper that it is learned Bill's first name was Marion.

At random times, it is revealed that Bill fought in battles against Native Americans as part of the 15th Infantry. Bill will also say it is the stuff he saw in the army that led him to join the gang.

The difference between Bill and the other members is that Dutch laughed in Bill's face. Bill got angry, but Dutch was able to calm him down and offer him a spot in the gang. Bill joined the gang in 1893, meaning it was in the gang for 6 years by the time the game starts.

7 Explosives Expert Of The Gang

Bill appears to be the explosives expert of the gang. During the first chapter, it is Bill that is responsible for setting the explosives on the track. During a side mission with Micah, Bill is also shown to help with explosives to stop a stagecoach.

Arthur also gives the nickname 'Dynamite Bill', alluding to his explosives expertise. It could be assumed this expertise came from Bill's time in the army.

6 Horse's Name Is Brown Jack

During the events of Red Dead Redemption II, Bill rides a brown Ardennes named Brown Jack. Through conversation, it is thought that the horse is loved deeply by Bill. Arthur will mention Bill loves the horse despite being a drunk, miserable man.

During Red Dead Redemption II, it can be seen that Bill and Javier are close to each other. When the player is chased during the last mission of Chapter 6, Bill and Javier appear to have run off together instead of trying to hunt down Arthur. Players might assume that they parted ways, but they seem to have still been in contact.

During the first game, set 12 years after the prequel, Javier is the person who helps Bill make it to Mexico. They must have still been pretty close for Javier to risk himself like that, especially because John was hunting Bill down.

A short time after Bill arrived, the Pinkertons are right behind him. The camp is attacked and the gang is forced to defend themselves. It could have been Micah who sold out the camp, but the timing of Bill and the attack just add up.

2 Multiplayer Quotes Directed At John

The single player characters featured in the first game's multiplayer

Bill is introduced to the first Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer in the Liars and Cheats DLC pack. Like all of the multiplayer characters, Bill has a unique set of quotes he can say. All of them appear to be aimed at John Marston, however.

Bill can be heard saying things such as 'I'll kill you twice' and 'This time, I'll make sure you're dead', referencing the beginning of the game. Bill will also mention Abigail and her past role in the gang. It would seem that Bill really has it out for John.

1 Becomes Brutal Gang Leader

Bill with members of his gang during the first game

Bill's gang is portrayed as the opposite of what the Van Der Linde gang was. Bill's gang is responsible for terrible murders, arson, and kidnapping. After Bill finds out John is still alive, he sets the MacFarlene barn on fire and also massacres the people living at Ridgewood Farm.

The gang is considered to be one of the worst in New Austin. John assaults Fort Mercer and forces Bill to flee to Mexico. Luckily, Bill is killed in Mexico and the Williamson Gang no longer bothers New Austin.
