There seems to be a very good chance that at some point, Superman is going to get another new movie and that when it does, the titular character will be recast. If and when that happens, it stands to reason that the character of Lois Lane will also get a new actor playing the role. This isn't a particularly easy role to fill. There is a certain type of actor and a certain type of personality that needs to be present in order to really sell the audience that she is in fact, Lois Lane. Should the role be recast, there are a couple of names out there that could fill those shoes, while at the same time giving the character a fresh direction that might better capture audiences of today.

Over the years, Lois Lane has subtly evolved in the Superman movie universe, into something more. Certainly, Margot Kidder's portrayal of the character wasn't just a damsel in distress. In fact, there's an argument there that Lois had more of a role in the earlier Superman films than she's had recently. It's possible that a recasting and a rebooting of the Superman franchise could mean that the character will get more screen time and do a bit more. That could especially be the case if the casting is done right.

Constance Wu

Constance Wu

Constance Wu might not be at the front of DCEU fans when it comes to playing Lois Lane in the next Superman but she probably should be. The actor has already shown that she can take on roles where's she strong and strident and can also be carrying and loving. Sometimes within five minutes of screen time. While it's true that most moviegoers and comics fans might expect Lois to turn up as a white woman, there's certainly nothing to say that has to be the case. After all, it wasn't all that long ago that Nick Fury was an older white guy. It might be time to take this iconic character and change her up a bit.

The biggest strike against Wu taking on Lois Lane would be that she hasn't appeared in any superhero movies before now. Of course, there was a time not all that long ago when very few actors had been in any kind of movie or television show where they put on a cowl or a cape. It might help that Lois isn't an actual superhero. She can simply help Superman face off against whatever villain appears in the next movie, as a civilian with tons of information at her fingertips.

Natalie Portman

If viewers are wanting someone who can play Lois Lane who has a few superhero movies on her resume, then look no further than Natalie Portman. Having played Jane Foster in several Thor movies, she's even got experience playing the love interest of someone who comes equipped with superpowers. Of course, the fact that she's so recognizable as Dr. Foster could also be used as a rather large drawback when it comes to getting her cast for anything in the DCEU. There's nothing to say an actor can't play two different parts in two different comic book-centered movie universes at the same time, but it's also something audiences don't see very often precisely because it becomes a bit of an oddity for those watching. Still, Portman has the kind of presence on the screen that could radiate the intrepid reporter who also has the guts and the standing to actually put Clark Kent in his place should she feel that's what he needs.

Malin Ackerman

If audiences want an actor who has some experience in superhero movies, but not in the MCU, then they need look no further than Malin Ackerman. She broke into the capes and cowls set as Laurie Jupiter in Watchmen, so she's even got some experience with a darker variation of a superhero movie should the DCEU want to go that route in the next Superman flick. She's also someone who has especially shown she's got the ability to play someone who can tell the truth to powerful people as the wife of Bobby Axelrod in the first few seasons of Showtime's Billions. It wouldn't be hard at all to envision Ackerman was someone who could tell Perry White hold off on a deadline if she needed to, or to dig up some information on a bunch of baddies if that's what the script called for in the next film.

Samira Wiley

samira wiley

Samira Wiley is another actor that would certainly call for a reimagining of Lois Lane, but that's hardly something that should ever be considered out of the question. If the DCEU is really going to keep rebooting these kinds of films, then it shouldn't be afraid to go all out and really change up what some of its most popular characters look like or how they behave. Wiley certainly has the presence that would make her as a believable Lois Lane in the next Superman film. While there was a time when she would have been best known for her character in Orange is the New Black, Wiley has forged her resume as a formidable person in The Handmaid's Tale. If she can stare down an entire oppressive regime, she can certainly show no fear, going up against the Legion of Doom in the DCEU.

Rebecca Hall

Rebecca Hall

There are several reasons why Rebecca Hall could fit into the role of Lois Lane. Right at the top of the list is that she's got the long dark locks that Superman's longtime love interest is famous for having. She's also got some experience appearing in superhero movies, having appeared in Iron Man 3 as the romantic fling of Tony Stark. There's also the fact that while devoted MCU fans might recognize her from that flick, she wasn't exactly a very prominent character the likes of Jane Foster. She is in fact, exactly the kind of actor who could do double duty in both the DCEU and the MCU. She could, in fact, be the most perfect fit of all to appear as Lois Lane in the next Superman movie.
