Although it is still trying to find its place among the Battle Royale crowd, Hi Rez StudiosRealm Royale is quickly finding an audience. However, that audience was none too happy when the developer made a controversial change to the game’s forging system.

Previously, players were able to forge class weapons, class abilities, and class armor at any of the forges scattered around the map. However, Hi Rez felt like this led to a quick imbalance and decided to remove the class weapon forge option and relegate the weapons to RNG drops from chests.

Needless to say, the change did not go over well with Realm Royale players and Hi Rez was quick to announce a compromise. Moving forward, forges in the Battle Royale game will offer six total options for players, including class weapons and legendary versions of common weapons (shotguns, heirloom rifles, etc.).

However, in order to forge a class weapon players will need 200 shards and 2 chicken legs, which are acquired from eliminating an opponent. So players will need to put in some work before they can actually acquire a class weapon, rather than craft one during the first forge.

The newest addition, crafting a non class legendary weapon, will cost 120 shards but those can also be found in zeppelins or weapon chests. As before, there is an element of RNG to chests.

Since its release in Early Access about a month ago, Realm Royale has gone through numerous changes, mostly for the good. Developer Hi Rez Studios is constantly listening to player feedback and tweaking the game in the Public Test Realm and moving everything over to the live severs when appropriate.

Some might argue that Hi Rez is being too quick to make changes, in fact, by trying to make as balanced of a game as possible. It does feel as though big changes happen several times per week and usually those changes impact how players approach the game. Hopefully, now that a strong backlash has encouraged Hi Rez to revert to a familiar system (with some tweaks), they will be more cautious about the sweeping changes.

Realm Royale is available for PC.
