In the Resident Evil 4 remake, the Red9 is a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with heavy recoil. It is the second-strongest handgun in the entire game, outpowered only by the Killer7. Design-wise, the Red9 resembles Mauser C96, an actual World War I weapon. And it has the same iconic integral box magazine.
In the original RE4, the Red9 was an early-game gun purchased at the Merchant site for 14,000 Ptas. The remake, however, turns it into a collectible treasure only available after beating the lake monster, Del Lago. If that sounds confusing, use this guide to get the Red9 handgun toll-free.
How to Get the Red9 Pistol in the Resident Evil 4 Remake
At the start of Chapter 4, get the boat in the Mural Cave and ride to the center of the lake; the Red9 is on the wrecked ship’s deck. Dock the boat near the wreckage and get to the deck to grab the Red9 pistol lying in the blue chest.
How to Get the Red9 Stock
Like the other pistol attachment, Laser Sight, the Red9’s stock is a deal-exclusive item. To get it, players must pay 9 Spinels to the Merchant. Once obtained, the stock attaches to the pistol’s grip, increasing its precision and shot grouping.

The Red9 Handgun Base and Max Stats
A fully upgraded Red9 has 2.70 power, 16 bullet capacity, 1.25 reload speed, 1.26 fire rate, and 3.00 precision. The base model—one with no upgrades—comes with 1.5 power, 8 bullet capacity, 0.85 reload speed and 0.9 fire rate.
To put that into perspective, SG-09’s all base stats are 1 with 10 bullet capacity.

What Is the Red9 Good For
Considering its sheer power, the Red9 is best for close-range battle. Its lack of precision, low fire rate, and slow reload speed, along with below-average magazine capacity, stop it from becoming a versatile pistol. But the maxed-out model is ideal for early chapters—where enemies are weaker and likelier to get killed by just one shot.
The Best Way to Upgrade the Red9
Because Level 4 and 5 upgrades unlock in chapter 9, players are better off investing in the Red9’s reload speed and fire rate, postponing power upgrades to late-game chapters. But they should get the stock as soon as possible, as it’s the only way to stabilize the Red9’s heavy recoil.
Red9 Vs. Blacktail: Stat Comparison
While the Red9 beats the Blacktail in power and capacity, it falls short of the precision, fire rate, and reload speed stats. With a max power of 2.7, the Red9 is definitely a stronger pistol. But the Blacktail is a faster and more accurate option—especially in long-range.

Is the Red9 in the RE4 Remake Worth It?
Investing in the Red9 is only worth it if the player has already maxed out SG-09 or a better pistol like the Blacktail. Since the Red9’s full upgrade costs 384,000 Ptas, it could wait for the second or third playthrough.
The Resident Evil 4 remake is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
