In an unusual but innovative crossover, Razer is teaming up with Mars Wrigley to bring gamers RESPAWN by 5 chewing gum, which will reportedly improve players' mental acuity. Usually, Razer releases high-end hardware and software for gamers, and while it has delved into flavored energy drinks in the past, this crossover is something new.

Razer's Respawn line of energy drinks for gamers started official testing in 2017, and became its own spin-off from Razer with a "dedicated team" devoted to creating a gamer-specific drink. This new chewing gum product is in the same vein, and is advertised to increase gamers' focus and reaction time while they're in long play sessions or high-stakes esports competitions. While the energy drinks obviously provide caffeine to keep gamers' brains on alert (about as much as a cup of coffee), the gum relies on other ingredients.

RESPAWN by 5 gum comes in three flavors: Cool Mint, Pomegranate Watermelon, and Tropical Punch, and each combines green tea extract with Vitamin B. Green tea has some caffeine in it, but it's usually less than half what one can find in a cup of coffee or energy drink like Monster. The gum is also sugar-free, so each piece will give the consumer five calories or less.

According to Razer, a ton of research and development went into making this the best product possible for gamers, with a lot of focus put into studying what both casuals and pros eat and play like on a regular basis. The researchers also made a big effort to understand their subjects' schedules, including how much time they spent on each activity, as well as their preferences, which is part of why the gum relies on green tea extract instead of large amounts of caffeine. And since many people game at night, Razer didn't want gamers to be too amped up from chemicals in the gum after they were done playing.

Although this may seem odd from a company that releases things like pro gaming mice and keyboards, it is true that companies in the industry are constantly trying out new ideas and approaches. Whether this pans out for Razer is not is something only time will determine, but since the Respawn energy drinks seem to be fairly successful, maybe the gum will be too.

The gum is available online now Razer's official store for $27.99 for 10 packs of 15 pieces each, which is quite a bit cheaper than its other products, like the Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds.
