Earlier today, Insomniac Games released a new Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart trailer that finally revealed "Rivet'' as the name of the new female Lombax character. Insomniac had kept Rivet's name under wraps ever since it first announced Rift Apart's existence over five months ago. It gave subtle hints about the character here and there but more or less allowed players to try and guess her name for themselves, which a surprising amount of them apparently managed to do.

With the cat out of the bag, Insomniac also decided to reveal Rivet's voice actor. After tweeting about Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart's Deluxe Edition's exclusive armor sets, Insomniac sent out a follow-up tweet that unveiled Jennifer Hale as Rivet's voice. If Hale's name sounds familiar, it's probably because she's been voice acting for over 30 years and, at this point, has likely voiced a character most pop-culture fans know well or have at least heard of.

Here's a rundown of some of the characters Hale has brought to life:

  • Bastila Shan (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic)
  • Samus Aran (Metroid Prime Trilogy)
  • Naomi Hunter (Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots)
  • Emma Emmerich (Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty)
  • Leah (Diablo 3)
  • Female Commander Shepard (Mass Effect series)

These are her most notable video game roles, but she's appeared in other entertainment mediums as well. For example, she also played Jean Grey in Wolverine and the X-Men and Felicia Hardy — better known as Black Cat — in Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

Rivet will be Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart's co-protagonist, so she'll likely be Hale's most involved and well-known voice acting role when it comes to video games. Insomniac's stunt at keeping Rivet mysterious also generated a lot of fan hype around the character, so if all goes well with Rift Apart, she'll likely be back for a Ratchet and Clank sequel, and if all goes well with Hale, she'll likely be back voicing her again.

There's only a little over a month left before Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart officially brings Rivet to the small screen, allowing fans to get to know her and witness Hale in action. Before that, Rift Apart will appear in the April 2021 PlayStation State of Play happening later this week, so fans will get to learn more about her there as well. It only makes sense for Rift Apart to spend its State-of-Play time on Rivet since Insomniac just revealed her.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart arrives June 11, 2021, for PS5.
