PlayStation announces that the new Ratchet & Clank remake on PlayStation 4 has set a record and officially become the fastest-selling game in the franchise.

April was a busy month for video games. Dark Souls 3 and Quantum Break released, big game updates hit Destiny and The Division, and plenty of betas were available – including Gears of War 4 and Battleborn. There was plenty to keep people busy and distracted.

But all that apparently did not stop fans from picking up the new PlayStation 4 reboot of Ratchet & Clank, which PlayStation announced was a big hit calling it the "fastest selling Ratchet & Clank game to date."

Ratchet & Clank on PS4 is a remake based on the movie of the same name (which hit theaters on April 29, 2016), which is based on the original 2002 Ratchet & Clank game for PlayStation 2.

The game launched on April 12, and Game Rant gave the game a 4.5 out of 5 saying the title "makes the rest of the current-gen remasters looks lazy, by rebuilding the original game from the ground up and delivering a hilarious adventure full of enormous guns."

PlayStation's post was short and didn't offer many details other than the game was record breaking. No exact numbers were given regarding how many units were sold or how much money it made, nor is it known which entry in the Ratchet & Clank series was the fastest-selling before this one.

There are 13 other titles in the franchise, spanning from the first game in 2002 on PlayStation 2, jumping on PlayStation 3 in 2007, with the last game being Into the Nexus on PS3 in 2013. Insomniac Games has developed every Ratchet & Clank game except for Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank, which were both on the PlayStation Portable system.

Since Insomniac's last entry in the series, Into the Nexus, the developer released Sunset Overdrive and has been working on the upcoming console game Song of the Deep and the Oculus Rift VR games Edge of Nowhere, The Unspoken, and the recently announced Feral Rites.

The new Ratchet & Clank has been getting high praise from critics and long-time fans. Admittedly, it is a gorgeous looking game, especially when compared to the original PlayStation 2 game – so it's not hard to see where all the positivity stems from. With that said, gamers can catch the first 20 minutes of the game to make a judgement for themselves.
