When Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack Time was over, not only did I feel a sense of closure as my beloved relationship with these characters came to an end, but I also felt an emptiness not knowing when I would see them again.

Luckily, Insomniac Games decided not to keep me waiting too long - as they unveiled Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One at E3. Now Sony has released a new gameplay video to get you, and your friends, excited for the game.

All 4 One takes the intrepid titular duo of the game and teams them up with long time buffoon Captain Qwark and evil super-villian Dr. Nefarious for some cooperative multiplayer. We got an in depth look at the multiplayer in action at PAX.

Check out the video below:

Insomniac has two successful franchises going for it in Ratchet and Clank and Resistance. While both are weapon based they each come from a different place, developmentally speaking. Ratchet and Clank is the PS3 series that prides itself on two things: gut busting humor and out of this world weaponry. While it looks like All 4 One has checked off the box on the humor category it is surprisingly devoid of any cool weapons. Yes, there are the trademark gadgets of the series along with some new coop based weapons like the Vacuu-4000, but where are the ones I come to expect from franchise? Hopefully it's just too early to show everything.

Since this new game is based on the idea of playing with your friends, Insomniac decided to replace the one-man army style of game play associated with previous versions of the game in favor of a more team-based option.

Ratchet and Clank All 4 One

Every new obstacle requires players to work together in order to progress further. While some of these options, like the wind tunnel sequence, give a new take on the idea of cooperative gameplay a lot of the other features are a bit too dry for my taste. It might have been too complicated of an option but I would have preferred a scenario where I could trap an enemy with the disco ball and then watch with delight as my friend eviscerated them with the buzz blades.

Insomniac took one step in the right direction by adding cooperative to their already successful franchise but at the same time the other foot is missing the mark. Instead of taking all that is great about Ratchet and Clank and applying it to a four-player experience, it looks as if they tried to adapt the four-player experience to Ratchet and Clank. While I am still excited to play this game, if only for another chance to play as my favorite Lombax, I really wish it could have been more Ratchet and Clank and less All 4 One.

Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One makes good use of that wrap around couch when it releases Fall 2011 on the PlayStation 3.
