Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is introducing several new things to the series. Fresh traversal mechanics will be included, such as dashing and wallrunning. Never-before-seen side activities will also be available, such pocket dimensions and glitch challenges. Biggest of all, a new protagonist will be added, with players set to meet Rivet for the very first time this June. As is the case with other Ratchet and Clank games, though, weapons reign supreme.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is confirmed to feature some classic weaponry, though plenty of new tools and guns will also be available to use. Thus far, five of these have been shown in action, and all seem as if they are going to be a ton of fun to wield in-game. While Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is still a month away from release, leaving time for a few more new guns to be showcased, here are all the weapons that are currently confirmed for the game.
The Burst Pistol And The Enforcer
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is confirmed to be taking advantage of the DualSense controller and its unique capabilities. While this will be seen through haptic feedback that makes gunfire and traversal feel more engaging, the adaptive triggers will also play a big role in the new Ratchet and Clank. This shows clearly via the Burst Pistol and Enforcer weapons.
In the case of the Burst pistol, players will be able to access two separate firing modes depending on how hard they pull the trigger. The first firing mode occurs when the trigger is pulled slightly, and it sees players firing single shots at their foes. When pulled fully, the second firing mode will fire rapid fire bursts at their enemies. Dealing more damage at the cost of being less accurate, this alternate firing mode is great to see. As for the Enforcer, players can fire one barrel or both barrels of the double-barreled shotgun depending how hard they press down on the trigger. With the PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal also using this mechanic, it seems like it is becoming the standard for weaponry in first party games.
The NegaTron Collider and Topiary Sprinkler
Players have only received a brief glimpse at the NegaTron Collider thus far, with the gun shown off in the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart gameplay trailer from earlier this week. Ratchet can be seen firing the large weapon and a group of enemy robots, and the bulky Collider seems to be a minigun of some kind. Firing purple bullets rapidly, the gun certainly looks as if it could be a powerhouse once it is upgraded.
Another new weapon coming to Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the Topiary Sprinkler, which was shown off in the lengthy State of Play gameplay session. A new form of grenade, Rivet is seen tossing this onto the ground when battling some flying enemies. A literal sprinkler, the grenade can be seen watering all the attackers in the surrounding area. After it waters an enemy, they will briefly turn into a plant. If players shoot at this fertilized foe, they will instantly be killed, making this grenade just as useful as it is unique.
The Shatterbomb And Other Weapons
The final new weapon showcased is the Shatterbomb. Similar to an older Ratchet and Clank weapon called the fusion grenade, this is the most straightforward tool of the bunch. Fired from a wrist-based grenade launcher, these bombs do a great deal of damage on impact, with Ratchet shown killing large enemies instantly in some early showings of gameplay.
Rivet also wields her own melee weapon, using a large blue hammer in place of Ratchet’s signature wrench. While it is unclear if it is used in puzzles like Ratchet’s wrench has been in the past, Rivet seems to do the same side swipes and overhead swings with the tool. Two other weapons have been spotted, though nothing about them has been shown. The Mr. Fungi was held by Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s new weapon vendor, and based on the name, it could be a cross between Mr. Zurkon and another plant-based attack. The Ricochet, on the other hand, could fire projectiles that bounce off nearby surfaces. Regardless of how these weapons work, though, it is clear that Ratchet and Clank fans will see tons of creativity in Rift Apart’s gadgets.
