Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart includes some memorable side quests, with one of the standout objectives seeing players gather food for Trudi. An adorable dragon with a big appetite, players will eventually be able to fly Trudi in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

After collecting enough Zurpstones from the Grunthor-filled Sargasso, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart players can hop on Trudi to hunt down the rest. While the game does show players the controls when they first interact with her, those that miss this rundown could struggle to use Trudi. Additionally, the game does not do the best job of telling players how to obtain and use her fireballs.

Trudi’s Basic Controls In Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

After Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart fans have gathered 30 Zurpstones, they can hop on Trudi’s back using the triangle button. She will then fly forward on her own, with gamers using the right analog stick to guide her. The R1 button gives her a speed boost, too, allowing Rivet to move forward at a much faster speed. Finally, there is an option to have Trudi stop in the sky, with both L1 and L2 functioning as a brake button. To keep Trudi in place, one of these buttons will need to be held down.

Another thing to note about Trudi is that there are several stations where she can land. These platforms will be easily noticeable, and players can place the dragon on them with a press of the circle button. If they are progressing on foot, Trudi will also follow them to the next available platform, meaning that there is no need to backtrack through the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart planet.

  • Triangle: Ride Trudi
  • Circle: Land Trudi
  • Right Analog Stick: Guide Trudi
  • R1: Speed Boost
  • L1/L2 (hold): Brake
  • R2: Fireball (needs to be unlocked)

Trudi’s Fireball In Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

While Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart fans are hunting down Zurpstones, they may notice that there are several that are up high. Running into them does nothing, however, and landing Trudi is impossible without a platform. As such, players need a new ability to break and claim them, with Trudi’s fireball being the perfect tool for the job. To get Trudi’s fireball, players will need to gather 45 of the 60 Zurpstones from around the map.

Once players have gotten all the ground based Zurpstones, Mort should tell them about Trudi’s fireball. After they are done talking, players will be able to use Trudi’s fire breath with the press of the right trigger. Braking with L2 will make the shots easier, and players should have no problem clearing the map of Zurpstones once they have this ability. For those hunting after Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s trophies, completing Trudi’s quest line should bring them one step closer to the platinum.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is available now on PS5.
