Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart fans have seen plenty of trailers for the game, with the marketing for the PS5 exclusive being extensive. However, the latest Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart marketing strategy left fans confused and excited, as several PlayStation exclusive franchises were referenced.

Throughout the day, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart fans were able to experience a special takeover event on the Insomniac Games Twitter account. Essentially an ARG, gamers followed Ratchet, Rivet, and Clank on their adventure to steal the RYNO 8 super weapon for Doctor Nefarious. With quotes from each character seen and polls used to change the story, it was an entertaining way to hype up the game — though out of nowhere, the ARG took a turn.

One of the posts saw Ratchet opening a huge rift with the RYNO 8, confirming the new ability of the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart weapon. However, gamers were shocked to see what was being pulled through the rift, as several other PlayStation exclusive properties were referenced. The first was Sunset Overdrive, as the massive mascot Fizzie was seen being pulled through a rift.

With the Sunset Overdrive Twitter account going live for the first time in two years after the post was made, fans assumed that this was a teaser for the franchise’s return. After all, a recent leak suggested that a Sunset Overdrive remaster and sequel were coming to PS5, fitting with this teaser. With Fizzie also seen in the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart evolution video, fans felt as if they had solved the teaser. However, more rift images followed, with none other than Sly Cooper featuring in the next.

With the biggest news about the Sly Cooper series in recent years being the announcement of a Sly Funko, fans were caught off guard by the tease. Many instantly began to think that he would appear in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart because of the photo, and while this is not necessarily confirmed, the final reveal makes it seem possible. Nathan Drake’s jeep from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and a Thunderjaw from Horizon Forbidden West were the other items pulled through portals, with the implication being that they were dragged into the Ratchet and Clank universe. As it turns out, this is exactly what was happening, as at least some of these items will be making an appearance in-game.

A final Tweet revealed what this was all for, as Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s RNYO 8 will use items from other dimensions to deal damage. With the Thunderjaw from Horizon dropped onto some enemies, it seems like the new RYNO will essentially serve as a weapon that creates PlayStation crossovers inside Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. While it is unclear if there are other crossovers that have not yet been revealed, this gun's absurd ability is sure to make it a fan favorite.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart launches June 11 on PS5.
