Sega is no longer in the console game, but many people still consider their swan song, the Dreamcast, to be one of the best video game consoles of all time. The Sega Dreamcast was incredibly innovative and helped to usher in a new generation of gaming as well as being the home for plenty of incredible titles.

There’s been a renewed interest in the Dreamcast as of late and there’s a vibrant community that still supports the console. The rarest Dreamcast games can cost hundreds of dollars, yet the quality and relatively small size of the console's library makes it a popular choice for collectors everywhere.

10 Bangai-O ($143)

Loose

$88.06

Complete in Box

$143.56

New

$232.83

Treasure is a legendary developer that's put together a lot of memorable and unique titles over the years. Bangai-O is a chaotic multi-directional shooter that's an absolute onslaught and a real challenge even for veterans of the shoot-'em-up genre.

The title is significant because it was the only English version of the game for some time before it began to be ported over to consoles in more recent years. A complete in box copy will therefore go for around $150, but the title is so rare that even the disc alone can sell for significant amounts.

9 Marvel vs Capcom 2 ($147)

XBox Fighting Games- Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Hulk Cyclops Zangief

Loose

$98.50

Complete in Box

$147.31

New

$535.52

Whatever one's thoughts are on the Dreamcast, it would be difficult to question the quality of its games. When it comes to fighting games, in particular, few consoles could come close to matching Sega's swansong system, with the likes of SoulCalibur, Fatal Fury, and Dead or Alive 2 all making pretty big waves in the fighting game community.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 is another of the top fighting games for the system, having arrived on the console just one month after its arcade debut. It remained a Dreamcast exclusive for around two and a half years before jumping ship in late 2002. The Dreamcast version remains popular among collectors though, with even loose copies selling for around $100.

8 Power Stone 2 ($152)

Loose

$87.50

Complete in Box

$152.59

New

$399.99

Before Super Smash Bros. Melee came around, the Dreamcast’s Power Stone 2 was the benchmark for four-player fighting games (and there’s a sizable crowd that still prefers Power Stone 2). The game is so creative and different from anything one might expect to find in a traditional fighting game.

It’s the perfect example of the Dreamcast’s power and unique nature and it’s a tragedy that Capcom hasn’t tried to revive the series in the years since. Power Stone 2 has turned into a very rare item over the past decade, with some collectors willing to pay almost $100 just for the disc.

7 Mars Matrix ($155)

Loose

$89.71

Complete in Box

$155

New

$249

Mars Matrix is a Capcom shooter for the Dreamcast that largely flew under the radar. It's not incredibly unique, but it's still a polished experience that stresses out the gamer as they try to stay on top of the neverending shower of bullets that rains down upon them.

Like many of Campcom's other games for the system, Mars Matrix is a Dreamcast exclusive, which is part of the reason why its price tag is so high at $250 for a sealed and new copy. That being said, used copies still go for around $150, making this one of the rarest and most expensive Dreamcast games.

6 Tech Romancer ($164)

Loose

$100

Complete in Box

$164.75

New

$264.82

Sega's decision to abandon the Saturn and its ill-fated Genesis add-ons annoyed a lot of consumers and it also left plenty of developers red-faced as well. Companies like EA wanted nothing to do with the Dreamcast, but not everybody turned their backs on Sega. Case in point: Capcom.

Capcom released plenty of amazing games for Sega's last home console as well as definitive versions of many of its previous works. Being a somewhat basic mech fighter, Tech Romancer falls into neither of these categories, but it is one of the rarest games for the Dreamcast due in large to its poor sales.

5 JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure ($187)

Loose

$156.08

Complete in Box

$187.25

New

$414.66

A pairing between Capcom and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure seems like a match made in heaven and the Dreamcast fighter is an absolute delight (and actually contains two titles). JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is enjoyable for fans of both the popular anime series and fans of 2D fighters.

The title has seen an HD remaster on online services, but the Dreamcast title remains the only physical console version. It's perhaps for this reason that the game is still a real rarity and regularly goes for around $200 - and that’s just for a used version that’s complete in box.

4 Project Justice ($220)

Loose

$141.89

Complete in Box

$220.88

New

$500

Capcom's Rival Schools fighting franchise (known as Project Justice in North America) never quite caught on as much as it should have. Project Justice, the second title in the franchise, is full of strange and unique characters and is a more than solid fighter that fans of the genre should definitely check out.

However, Project Justice was released in North America after the Dreamcast's discontinuation had been announced, which wasn't much of a purchasing incentive. Project Justice is a Dreamcast exclusive and the price has fluctuated over the years, but it’s still seen as a big-ticket item for Dreamcast collectors.

3 Illbleed ($241)

Loose

$183.75

Complete in Box

$241.25

New

$318.61

Illbleed is one of the Dreamcast’s most original and most overlooked titles. It offers up a self-aware spin on the survival horror genre and is actually a very enjoyable game that manages to be as frightening as it is challenging.

Illbleed never made its way over to any other consoles, so the fact that it’s locked away on the Dreamcast is why it’s seen as such a relic. New and sealed copies go for around $300, with used copies typically coming in at around the $250 mark.

2 Cannon Spike ($278)

Loose

$147.66

Complete in Box

$278.36

New

$490

Cannon Spike is a fever dream of an action game from Capcom. It throws a lot of its franchises into a blender together to deliver a tightly-paced action game that has some of the best boss battles on the console, not to mention some of the smoothest combat.

Cannon Spike is just pure entertainment but it's unfortunately another game that's remained trapped on the Dreamcast. The ability to play as Mega Man is also just too much fun. The title's price has grown steadily over time, leading to it becoming one of the rarest and most expensive Dreamcast games.

1 Giga Wing 2 ($297)

Loose

$179.99

Complete in Box

$297

New

$399

Giga Wing 2 is one of many 2D shooters that were developed by Capcom for the Dreamcast. As one could probably guess just by looking at it, it's an extreme challenge yet looks incredible due to it having been released toward the end of the Dreamcast's life cycle.

Giga Wing 2 wasn't always this coveted, but, over the past decade or so, the price has skyrocketed, with complete in box copies regularly selling for around $300. Its predecessor, Giga Wing, also isn’t cheap, but it’s nothing compared to this.
