Retro consoles like the NES are known for having some super rare games that collectors spend a lot of time and money trying to hunt down. What a lot of people might not realize, though, is that some of the more recent consoles also have rare games that certain collectors are desperate to get their hands on. Even though the console had a relatively short lifespan, the original Xbox is one such console and boasts plenty of rare and expensive games that are becoming increasingly hard to find.

With each passing year, more and more people are starting to hunt down some of the many great games on the original Xbox, and, due to the new Xbox Series machines allowing full backward compatibility, this number is only going to increase in the coming months and years. As a result, the price of the most expensive Xbox games has risen a lot in recent years and will likely continue to do so as more and more of them begin to fall into the hands of collectors.

10 The Guy Game ($84)

How exactly The Guy Game ever became a thing is something of a mystery, but it seems safe to say that it hasn't aged all that well. That's assuming that this kind of thing was ever appropriate in the first place, which, after learning a little more about it, most will likely conclude was never the case. To say that the game was a little crass would perhaps be a bit of an understatement.

Using low-resolution FMV sequences to reveal answers, the game has players take part in a very basic quiz, with a number of different "Hotties" available to help them out with some of the answers. Shortly after its release, it was revealed that one of the girls who appeared in the game was actually underage when the footage was filmed, making it illegal to sell or even own The Guy Game in certain countries.

9 Def Jam: Fight For NY ($87)

EA's hip-hop-inspired Def Jam series surprised quite a few people with its solid combat and fantastic soundtrack. What's more, being able to duke it out with some of the biggest names in the rap game was also quite the treat. With that in mind, it's easy to see why Def Jam: Fight For NY is such a desirable game.

The disc alone can sell for almost $80, while a complete version of the game tends to average around $10 or so more. As the years continue to pass and more and more copies fall into the hands of collectors, though, these prices are only going to rise; at least if the rising prices for some of the other rare Xbox games are anything to go by, anyway.

8 Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors ($90)

One of FromSoftware's earliest releases, Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors is a hack-and-slash game in which players control an undead warrior as they take on an army of demons. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, many complained about the game's difficulty at the time of its release, with the developer's Souls-like gameplay template front and center in both Otogi 2 and its 2002 predecessor; which was also an Xbox exclusive.

Like its predecessor, Otogi 2 actually performed pretty well with reviewers despite its poor sales. In later years, the success of Dark Souls has led to renewed interest in both games, which, together with the limited number of copies that are out in the wild, has led to their value skyrocketing. The first game can still be picked up for around $35, but the sequel will cost more than twice that amount.

7 Obscure ($93)

Rarely is a game as aptly titled as Obscure. This survival horror game failed to make much of an impression when it was first released back in 2005, although it did do well enough to receive a sequel. Since then, however, it has gone on to garner something of a cult following which has led to boxed copies of the game becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Interestingly, a loose copy of the game will set collectors back almost as much as a complete copy will, with just $15 or so separating the two. A brand-new version will cost almost three times as much though, so those looking to complete a sealed collection of Xbox games should be prepared to spend big.

6 Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 ($109)

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a game that has been released on several different platforms, but that hasn't stopped the version for the original Xbox from becoming a collector's item. As the title might suggest, it's a crossover fighting game that pits Marvel superheroes and villains against characters from some of the best Capcom games.

The game was originally released in 2000 exclusively in Japanese arcades but was later ported to various home consoles, including systems from both the sixth and seventh generations of home consoles. A complete copy of the game for the original Xbox goes for a little over $100, which isn't much more than just the disc.

5 Spikeout: Battle Street ($174)

As is often the case with rare games, Spikeout: Battle Street is a fairly mediocre affair with lackluster combat and a cast of characters so dull that they make Watch Dogs' Aiden Pearce seem interesting. It's perhaps for this reason that so few copies of the game are in circulation, and, as a result of this, why it's so difficult to get a hold of.

Those willing to settle for a loose copy of the game needn't worry too much as they'll only need to drop around eighty-five bucks. A complete copy of the game, however, can sell for more than twice that amount. For what is effectively a poor man's version of Streets of Rage, even the most ardent of collectors may think twice before bidding that high.

4 Teen Titans ($190)

Teen Titans is a video game that was released in 2006. It's based on the animated series of the same name and was released on the GameCube and PlayStation 2, as well as the original Xbox. The game has players control Robin, Raven, Cyborg, Starfire, and Beast Boy, allowing them to switch between them whenever they want to in order to utilize their unique abilities.

Picking up a copy of Teen Titans for the original Xbox definitely isn't cheap. Although the disc alone can sometimes sell for less than $100, a collector that wants a complete copy of the game will typically have to hand over almost twice that amount, making it one of the most expensive games for the original Xbox.

3 Futurama ($212)

Futurama is definitely best known for being an adult animated series, but the animated series was once so popular that it even got its own video game adaptation. It was released on both the PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox. A GameCube port was planned too at one point, but never saw the light of day.

The game is a blend of shooting and platforming, and, at different points in the game, the player controls different characters from the show, including Fry, Bender, Leela, and Zoidberg. Buying only the disc can cost more than a hundred bucks, but finding a complete copy of this game will cost a collector an average of $212.

2 OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast ($336)

OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast is one of the last games in the popular OutRun franchise, and, as the title suggests, was released in 2006. It was released on several different platforms, including the original Xbox, the PlayStation 2, and the PlayStation Portable, and was one of the first racing games to feature online play.

Just picking up a loose copy of OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast can cost around one hundred dollars, which is pretty pricey, but those after a complete copy should be prepared to pay considerably more. In that condition, the game typically goes for around $350.

1 Steel Battalion ($410)

Steel Battalion is a game that was released on the original Xbox in 2002 and is unique because of the Xbox accessories that were created specifically for it. The player has to use these unusual accessories to control the tank in the game, and they have to be careful not to let it overheat or have anything else go wrong with it.

Because of the super unique accessories that were created for use with Steel Battalion, finding the game is definitely not easy and it's also not cheap. Serious Xbox collectors that are determined to pick the game up should be prepared to pay more than $400 for a complete copy of the game and all of its accessories.
