Rainbow Six Siege’s Outbreak co-op event is due to begin soon and thus, the last few days have seen Ubisoft release a load of new information about the event (including a new teaser trailer) to increase player anticipation.

The new trailer, entitled “Ash’s Briefing,” is a 1:30 CGI clip that furthers the backstory of the upcoming event. It sees playable operator Ash updating fellow operators Thermite and Tachanka on the situation taking place in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico (which a previous trailer had revealed as quarantined due to some sort of parasite infestation.)

The upcoming event, which is due to take place between March 6th and April 3rd];, will see players in teams of three enter the infestation zone in an attempt to locate the source of the outbreak while fighting off those infected with the parasite. It is important to note that the infected's abilities far outmatch those of a regular human being.

In a recent blog post, Ubisoft also revealed that enemies will be divided into five different parasite classes, each with their own unique abilities. The list of parasites includes:

  • Grunts: a highly-resistant enemy capable of modifying its armor upon sensing a threat.
  • Breachers: explosive creatures capable of launching themselves into combat and destroying indestructible environments.
  • Roosters: whose main method of attack involves raising projectile spikes from the ground.
  • Smashers: an enemy that is basically bullet resistant.
  • Apexes: the most-powerful parasite capable of throwing projectiles at players, while sending hordes of other hostiles towards them too.

The full reveal of the upcoming event is due to take place between February 18th and 19th, during Ubisoft’s 2018 Six Invitational – an eSports event that pits the greatest Rainbow Six Siege teams against one another in order to determine the best. The event will be streamed live on the Rainbow Six Twitch channel.

Although it may seem a bit odd to add monsters to a game that was initially focused on simulating tactical operations during terrorist situations, the Outbreak event does seem as if it will introduce an interesting dynamic to the game. If nothing else, it could entice players that were not initially interested on the game's concept but are fans of cooperative zombie killing.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
