In recent years, the tactical shooter space has been in a renaissance thanks to games such as Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant, and Counter Strike Global Offensive, all exploding in popularity. Gamers waiting for one of these franchises to make the jump to mobile devices are in luck. Today, Ubisoft announced that Rainbow Six Mobile is in development and promises to bring the full Rainbow Six Siege experience to iOS and Android devices.

Rainbow Six Siege first launched in 2015 for PC and consoles. Since then, it has become one of the premiere team-based first-person tactical shooters, with Ubisoft hosting multiple Rainbow SIx Invitational championships throughout its lifespan. Rainbow Six Siege still regularly receives new content and frequent updates seven years later. Ubisoft has expanded Rainbow Six with spin-off games such as Rainbow Six Extraction and now Rainbow Six Mobile.

Today’s announcement includes a full trailer for Rainbow Six Mobile and a few words from the developers of the game via blog post. Players should quickly notice some familiar faces and locations that the mobile version shares with Siege on PC and consoles. Many Rainbow Six Siege operators are present throughout the trailer, including Sledge, Hibana, and Thermite. The developers state that at its core, Rainbow Six Mobile is the same competitive FPS game of Attackers vs. Defenders that players have grown to love except rebuilt from the ground up to support mobile platforms. The game has no official release date; however, players can sign up for the closed alpha test on Ubisoft’s website.

Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Mobile joins a growing list of popular PC and console shooters that have found their way to the mobile gaming space. Activision recently announced a mobile port of Call of Duty: Warzone, complementing the wildly popular Call of Duty: Mobile. PUBG and Fortnite have found great success on mobile devices for the past few years, while Apex Legends’ mobile port is underway. The mobile market is primed and ready to welcome a new version of Rainbow Six.

Rainbow Six Siege is a first-person shooter juggernaut on consoles and PC, and Rainbow Six Mobile has the potential to follow in its footsteps. Players in the YouTube comments section are rather enthusiastic about this title. A stark contrast to how players reacted to Ubisoft’s announcement of Ghost Recon Frontline and Rainbow Six Extraction. Rainbow Six Mobile appears to excellently preserve and convert the complete Siege experience to mobile platforms. And if it follows through on that promise, Rainbow Six Mobile may very well be one of the best mobile shooters on the market.

Rainbow Six Siege is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A mobile version is in development for iOS and Android.
